    Chief Operating Officer

Zanes Law Injury Lawyers is hiring a true Chief Operating Officer to run and scale the day-to-day operations of a founder-led, 23-year personal injury firm operating in two Arizona markets.

This is a senior operating seat with real authority. You will make decisions, enforce standards, and hold leaders accountable. This is not an advisory role, a Director of Operations role, or office management with a bigger title.

Our goal is to scale to nine figures in settlements while staying lean, profitable, and operationally disciplined, without the founders carrying the daily operational load.

About the Firm Zanes Law is a high-output, intentionally lean personal injury firm with nearly $1B recovered for clients. We have grown organically through strong systems, clear standards, and disciplined execution. The firm is healthy and profitable. Nothing is broken.

Our next phase is scaling in an organized, controlled way without adding unnecessary complexity, headcount, or noise. We are protective of what already works and serious about staying that way.

The Role The COO owns how the firm operates day to day.

You are responsible for operational execution, leadership development, and building the structure required to scale without chaos. You will lead leaders, not manage tasks.

People leadership is a core requirement of this role. This includes coaching, correcting, and addressing underperformance directly. Avoiding hard conversations is not an option here.

You will partner closely with the founders on priorities and execution, while independently running the operating system of the firm.

Real-World Operators Only We are not looking for someone whose leadership experience lives primarily in theory, credentials, or polished corporate environments.

We are intentionally seeking an operator who has carried real accountability. You have been responsible when things broke. You have made unpopular decisions. You have confronted underperformance, exited people when necessary, and fixed systems under pressure when there was no playbook.

If your default mode is analysis, consensus, or deferring decisions upward, this role will not be a fit.

If your strength comes from real-world problem solving, accountability under pressure, and learning by doing, you will feel at home here.

Key Responsibilities • Own day-to-day operations across all internal departments including HR, Intake, Case Management, Settlements, and general office operations • Lead, coach, and hold department heads and managers accountable • Build decision-makers who operate independently and enforce standards • Design and refine systems that increase throughput while strategically increasing headcount • Establish clear decision rights, operating rhythms, and escalation rules • Eliminate bottlenecks, rework, and operational drag • Partner with the founders on execution and operational priorities • Ensure compliance and risk oversight in a regulated legal environment

Marketing strategy is owned separately. P&L decisions are made in partnership with the founders.

How We Operate Zanes Law is intentionally lean by design.

We do not solve problems by adding people. We solve them by increasing clarity, tightening systems, and raising leadership standards. If your instinct is to hire before fixing structure, this role will be uncomfortable.

This role is best suited for someone who thrives in high-performance environments, expects strong output from every seat, and is comfortable making decisions without hand-holding.

Who You Are • 10+ years of senior operations leadership experience • Proven success leading multiple departments • Experience scaling a professional services business or law firm • A strong people leader who can develop, coach, and hold leaders accountable • Comfortable making independent decisions • Direct communicator with low tolerance for ambiguity or excuses

Who This Role Is Not For • Office managers, coordinators, or project managers looking for a step up • Operators who require consensus or constant alignment to act • Leaders who avoid conflict or delay hard conversations • Candidates without real experience managing, correcting, and terminating leaders

Compensation and Benefits • Base salary: $205,000 to $230,000 • Performance bonus tied to operational outcomes • Medical, dental, and vision benefits • Profit-sharing and a true pension-style retirement plan • In addition to a 401(k), we offer a cash balance pension plan that functions like a traditional pension • PTO/STO/Holidays

This role is for someone who wants real ownership, real responsibility, and real impact. If you are energized by building order during growth, holding high standards, and making a strong organization even stronger, we want to hear from you.

If you are looking for comfort, stability, or a title without weight, this is not the right seat.
