    Job Description

    JOB TITLE: Chief Student Services Officer

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. A valid Alabama certificate for superintendent, principal or supervisor.
    2. A minimum of three years of successful teaching experience.
    3. A minimum of three years administrative and/or supervisory experience.
    4. Experience in working with programs for at-risk students preferred.
    5. Experience/knowledge in computerized record keeping preferred.
    6. Demonstrated competence in oral and written communications.
    7. Such alternatives to the above as the Board may find acceptable.

    REPORTS TO: Superintendent

    JOB GOAL:

    To enable all students to utilize their educational opportunities to the fullest by eliminating, as far as possible, those problems that prevent or interfere with the student's learning.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Provide leadership and assist with the formulation of a desirable educational program for the students of Alabaster City Schools.

    2. Investigate and follow up on findings in cases of absence referred by school principals or legal authorities or in cases known to the Central Office.

    3. Refer to the legal system any cases in which child abuse, neglect, or employment law violations seem to have occurred and prepare cases for formal hearings as needed.

    4. Cooperate with school officials, counselors, juvenile court, and other social agencies dealing with cases of known, suspected, or probable delinquency on the part of school age persons.

    5. Attend court when cases are presented concerning juveniles or support personnel using the services of the Board attorney when appropriate.

    6. Serve as liaison between Family Court and the School System or between schools and the parents, the courts, community agencies, and policy authorities.

    7. Maintain, update, and enforce the attendance program for the district's students.

    8. Serve, as requested, as a hearing official for administrative hearings provided juveniles.

    9. Conduct attendance hearings, court conferences, and other administrative duties to ensure compliance with the district's attendance program.

    10. Coordinate the placement of irregular enrollments.

    11. Coordinate efforts to comply with state and local health requirements for students and advise schools and parents concerning communicable diseases.

    12. Cooperate with Area Adult Education Agencies in referral of students.

    13. Coordinate, plan and administer school system attendance zones and out of zone requests.

    14. Serve as central office representative for athletic issues and concerns.

    15. Coordinate the development and implementation of computerized attendance accounting.

    16. Direct all activities involving the development and publication of the Code of Conduct and Attendance.

    17. Recommend needed policies and services concerning Alabaster City Schools students.

    18. Be regular and punctual in attendance.

    19. Maintain confidentiality of any Board of Education business.

    20. Assume other responsibilities and duties that might be reasonably assigned.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 Months (240 days)

    EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy.

    SALARY: Appropriate placement on current salary schedule.
