Job Summary
The Children's Clinic of Fredericksburg is seeking a Pediatric Phlebotomist to join our team. In this role, you will be under the general direction of the Operations Administrator and the Director of the Laboratory, to collect blood, tissue, and fluid samples from patients, and process accession requisitions into the Laboratory Computer System. This is a role that can make a significant impact on people’s lives, helping them identify underlying conditions and stay healthy.
Responsibilities
Prioritize requests for sample collection based on urgency
Collect patients’ personal information
Determine the correct venipuncture method for each patient
Provide patients with reassurance during the collection process
Use sterilized needles, vials, and other equipment to draw blood
Correctly label samples and send them for testing
Draws blood samples as requested by physician orders
Research test information, and confirm and verify all written and electronic orders by utilizing the lab directory of services
Organizes and processes requisition forms
Maintain supplies
Keeps Phlebotomy work area neat, clean, and well-stocked
Maintains a specimen log to ensure all results have been received by the physician in a timely fashion
Performs other rapid tests requested by the provider
Performs maintenance and record keeping
Performs quality controls and Proficiency testing.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required
Certified Phlebotomy Training Course completion and certificate preferred
Experience
Minimum 2 year of Pediatric Phlebotomy experience.
Licensure and/or Certification
Phlebotomy Certification preferred.
Skills
Familiarity with the legal requirements regarding blood draws and fluid samples
Knowledge of best practices in patient identification methods
Ability to work independently and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
Effective phlebotomy skills
Must be able to switch priorities and respond to the changing needs of the department.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Strong computer and data entry skills
Must have the ability to read, write, and communicate in English
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to reduce anxiety in patients and parents while performing patient care duties'
