    Children’s Rescue Fund is seeking FULL TIME SOCIAL WORKERS.

    Children’s Rescue Fund provides transitional housing to mothers and their children who are currently experiencing homelessness.  If you are looking to make a significant difference in the lives of some of our most vulnerable families this position will afford you with the opportunity to make a lasting impact on our families, by providing each of them with the benefit of social work services while in shelter and assisting them in building a strong bridge back to their permanent communities.  Whether you are a recent MSW graduate, recently licensed, years of experience in the social service field, and are looking for a full time opportunity this may be an excellent opportunity for you.  _CHILDREN’S RESCUE FUND PROVIDES ONGOING CLINICAL SUPERVISION BY A LCSW IN ORDER FOR OUR LMSW STAFF TO OBTAIN THE HOURS NECESSARY TO SIT FOR THEIR LCSW EXAM.  _

    WHERE:  Agency is looking to hire full time social workers for its Bronx locations.

     

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS: 

    • MSW
      • Must obtain LMSW license within 3 months of date of hire

    • FAMILY ASSESSMENT - Complete a comprehensive bio-psychosocial assessment with each family.  Provide family with referrals in the community and develop a treatment plan/update for families receiving social work services. 
    • ADVOCACY – Assist family with navigating the often confusing & complex multiplicity of systems that they are involved in their day to day lives.
    • EMOTIONAL SUPPORT – Provide an emotionally supportive presence to families ex: supporting your client through the process of pressing charges against their abusers, loss of a loved one, removal of a child by ACS etc.
    • SUPPORTIVE COUNSELING/MENTAL HEALTH & PSYCHIATRIC SERVICES – Social worker provides the family with a safe space to allow for venting of frustrations, the exploration of the complex emotions surrounding the circumstances that brought them to the shelter system, as well as a host of other issues. The social worker provides psychoeducation to our families around various aspects of mental health in an effort to destigmatize mental health services & treatment thus providing the necessary bridge to behavioral health involvement by improving access to mental health services.   In some more elevated circumstances the social worker will accompany the client experiencing acute psychiatric emergencies to the nearest hospital, and to work collaboratively with hospital staff (physicians, social workers & HHA) to ensure the best possible outcome of care for the family.
    • CRISIS INTERVENTION – Provide crisis intervention to the family around issues of domestic violence, psychiatric distress, substance use/or abuse, conflict among residents, processing sudden grief/loss, de-escalation of a situation with family or other shelter staff.
    • PSYCHOEDUCATION – Social worker provides psychoeducation and in service training to families and shelter staff surrounding a range of topics to further the DHS mission of servicing families using a strengths based, family centered, trauma informed, anti-oppression lens thus shifting the shelter system’s paradigm.    
    • GROUP WORK WITH FAMILIES – Groups are provided ex:  Women’s Empowerment Group –This support group’s primary goal is to help women develop a sense of empowerment in all areas of life. The group also serves as a safe space for the women to provide support to each other as they are raising families in shelter.  The group discusses a wide range of topics that are designed to encourage the members to feel empowered. Topics have included financial empowerment, learning how to be more assertive, mental health, parenting, relationships, self-esteem, self-reflection, coping techniques for overcoming struggles, faith, their hopes and dreams.
    • FAMILY CENTERED ACTIVITIES - A multitude of family centered activities are held where the entire family system can attend and participate.  By developing a deeper engagement with the family system the social worker is able to become more familiar with the family and the family more engaged in the services offered by the social work department.  Some of these family centered activities included Halloween party, holiday craft party, celebration for Black History month.
    • CULTIVATION OF PARTNERSHIPS – Social Worker is responsible for creating partnerships with various community based organizations as well as cultivating new resources, connecting our families with assets & opportunities ranging from children’s books, pajamas, winter coats, turkeys for Thanksgiving, toys for winter holidays & school supplies. 
    • MULTI – DISCIPLINARY TEAM -Work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team, and service provider to enhance engagement & ensure quality service.
