Descriptive Title: Facilities Technician
Shift: Saturday through Wednesday, 7:00 am to 4:00 pm and other days and times as needed
FLSA: Non-exempt

Job Summary: Provide maintenance, repair and improvement of facilities, grounds, structures and utilities. Most duties performed under general supervision.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Perform specialized maintenance, facilities or construction duties.
• Understand the procedures and safety measures in area of specialization.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance according to procedures to ensure that equipment runs smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.
• Fabricate, repair or clean drives, motors and belts; check fluid levels, replace filters and perform other maintenance actions.
• May assemble, install and repair electrical, HVAC, or plumbing systems.
• Diagnose and repair machine malfunctions.
• Assist with building, repairing, and painting, climbing structures, roofs, windows, doors, floors, woodwork, plaster, drywall, counters, benches, partitions and other wooden structures such as sheds and outbuildings.
• Operate cutting torches and welding equipment.
• Clean and organize work areas.
• Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools to precisions measuring instruments and electrical testing devices.
• Complete daily work orders and job assignments.
• Operate vehicles and power equipment, such as mowers, tractors, and van.
• Keep a list of supplies needed for upcoming jobs.
• Keep up with quarterly PM on all HVAC and equipment.
• Communicate with animal care.
• Maintain Discovery Day area for daily tours and weekend open house days.
Supervision and Responsibility
Works under general supervision of the Director Facility & Grounds. Assists with training new employees. May supervise volunteers. Knowledgeable about area of specialization, including concepts, practices and procedures. Relies on pre-established guidelines, experience to plan, and accomplish goals. Exercises judgment to make recommendations for improvement.
Education/Training and Experience
• Associates degree or certification in area of specialization preferred but not required.
• Six years maintenance experience required. A combination of eight years education and/or experience can be substituted for above requirements.
• Must be able to read and follow written and verbal instructions and write legibly and accurately.

• Basics HVAC/Electrical
Experience and Skills Required
• Basic Knowledge of HVAC/Electrical Systems and Welding
• Duties may require driving Chimp Haven vehicles. Must have a valid driver’s license and meet Chimp Haven’s motor vehicle operating standards.
• Building Maintenance, Drywall Repair, Painting, Welding & Fabricating, Carpentry, Small Engine Repair
• Strong communication skills as well as computer knowledge to input data, review and reply to email

• This work will require bending, carrying, kneeling, lifting, listening, pulling, pushing, reading, speaking, squatting, standing, stooping, stretching, walking, watching and writing.
• Must be able to routinely lift and carry 50 lbs. for short distances.
• Work may involve considerable outdoor work in various weather conditions.
• Potential exists for animal bites and scratches.
• Potential exposure to disease that may pass from the chimps to a human.
• Relevant vaccinations are required (MMR and COVID).
• Weekend, holiday and night work may be necessary.
• Safety training, equipment, clothing and supplies provided by Chimp Haven.
