    Job Description

    Chiorini, Platt & Jacobs

    Extraordinary Opportunity for Experienced CPA

    Position Description

Chiorini, Platt & Jacobs was established in 1938 by the late Jack Chiorini. Since then, the firm has grown and changed dramatically along with the city and county of Santa Cruz. Once a sleepy agricultural and beach resort community, the greater Santa Cruz area has been profoundly transformed by the University of California at Santa Cruz and by Silicon Valley.

UC Santa Cruz has brought thousands of distinguished academics to the community, including members of the National Academy of Sciences, Guggenheim fellows, MacArthur Fellows, Fulbright Scholars, and, most recently a Nobel Prize winner. The large community of intellectuals in a relatively small population make Santa Cruz an unusually interesting and culturally rich environment. There are high-profile events annually, such as Shakespeare Santa Cruz, the Santa Cruz Symphony, and Open Studios. And on a daily basis, one can enjoy exhibitions, lectures, and unique destinations, such as the UCSC Arboretum, the UCSC Theater Arts Center, and the Seymour Marine Discovery Center at Long Marine Lab.

The influence of Silicon Valley on Santa Cruz cannot be understated. While Santa Cruz is home to hundreds of interesting tech and scientific start-ups, it is also home to thousands of people who are key players in tech companies both in Silicon Valley and around the world. As barriers to remote work have dissolved, Santa Cruz continues to attract some of the best and most creative minds in technology. The synergy of a major university and highly skilled tech workers makes Santa Cruz fertile ground for new ideas, industries, and economic opportunity.

Blessed with fertile land and a perfect climate, agriculture remains a critical part of the economy and culture of the area. Historically Santa Cruz has been the among the world’s largest producers of strawberries, artichokes, and brussels sprouts. Over the last 40 years, Santa Cruz has emerged as ground zero for organic farming. Amazing fresh local organic fruits, vegetables, and produce are available at grocery stores, farmers markets and restaurants throughout the area.

Natural Beauty and an incredible climate have attracted people to Santa Cruz for thousands of years. The Santa Cruz Mountains are heavily forested with redwood, fir, oak, and madrone and are a source of year-round recreation. Vast areas of the Santa Cruz Mountains are preserved and protected in California State Parks and Santa Cruz County and City parks. The coast is lined with beautiful beaches and cliffs that overlook the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Whales, dolphins, sea otters, and sea lions are regularly visible from the coast. The combination of mountains and ocean make Santa Cruz a mecca for naturalists, surfers, sailors, mountain bikers, hikers, climbers, and other outdoor enthusiasts.

This amazing community is more than a home to our firm. It continues to inspire us. From its inception, our firm has been deeply invested in the community. Over the years our team have served in various positions on boards, elective offices, state professional societies, and as volunteers for various not for profit organizations. The deep interconnection between the community and the firm contributes to a uniquely fulfilling professional life and enduring personal and professional relationships. It is no accident that our firm is located in downtown Santa Cruz adjacent to City Hall.
