POSITION OVERVIEW: The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of Chiquita’s containers, chassis, generator sets and yard equipment. This includes the preventative and scheduled maintenance for the chassis and generator sets, as well as the quarterly BIT inspections required by the Department of Transportation and the California Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform quarterly BIT inspections of Chiquita chassis to comply with DOT and California regulations
Perform needed repairs on chassis and containers to maintain the unit in road-safe condition
Perform pre-trip inspections of over-the-road chassis/containers used for customer orders
Perform scheduled maintenance and/or needed repairs on generator sets
Perform repairs on containers and yard equipment as needed to support day to day operations
Keep all shop equipment and tools clean, organized and in their proper locations
Maintain their work area in a clean, safe, and organized manner
Other duties as needed and/or requested by the supervisor
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
1 year of minimum experience working in vehicle maintenance, and/or,18 months of vocational training working in diesel or automotive repair.
Self-motivated with a strong work ethic capable of working alone or in a team
Practical experience using hand tools, air tools and/or power tools
Ability to drive and operate a forklift is preferred
Able to read, write and speak English is required; Spanish bilingual is preferred
Welding experience is a plus
JOB ENVIRONMENT:
Maintenance Technicians generally perform services in a shop setting, but may be required to perform repairs in an open yard setting
Must be able to lift 50 pounds without straining
Must be able to twist, turn, reach overhead, stand, and walk throughout their shift
Stooping, squatting, bending and twisting are frequently required to complete job duties
Must be able to work extended shifts; such as weekends, holidays, and/or mandatory overtime
