    POSITION SUMMARY

    This Position is responsible for the execution, monitoring and support of the Food Safety Standards, Food Safety Quality Management System – included all related FSMA Rules applying to the different Chiquita locations. The Safety & Food Coordinator would be responsible for the implementation and monitoring of the workers safety program.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Support the implementation and compliance of the Global Food Safety Initiative standard (GFSI); specifically, for HACCP and BRC Storage and Distribution Centers standard

    Support the implementation and compliance of the Safety Management to the different Chiquita locations

    Response to customers inquiries and implement any additional requirement as needed

    Educate and train Distribution Centers managers and food safety team on FSMA, PCQI, FDA, USDA NOP, HACCP, GMP’s and, BRC storage and distribution standard and expectations

    This person would be the key contact for customer enquiries of Chiquita Distribution and storage standard including customer request for letters of guarantee and insurances

    Conduct internal audits and monitoring programs to ensure corrective actions and improvement plans are completed

    Develop and support the Quality Management Systems (QMS) across own operations and distribution network, and evaluate as needed

    Monitor and communicate specification compliance and effectiveness results to business team; follow-up with DCs, ripening centers, distributors for process improvements

    Serve as quality and food safety resource and team member for licensees, innovations, research & development, supply management teams and customers

    Provide technical expertise, strategic leadership and support to company various facilities on regulatory compliance issues in Safety

    Understand any/all potential safety hazards present; take steps to reduce/ mitigate any potential safety hazards

    Create synergy and leverage the knowledge, personnel and resources of the Safety department

    Build world class safety programs leading to sustainable change in the safety culture

    Lead and oversee specific programs to assure regulatory compliance in EHS

    Manage the EHS information and reporting, including the generation of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports, their corresponding analysis, and the proposition of improvement actions

    Comprehensive understanding of risk assessments of machine guarding and Incident Investigations

    Responsible for planning, implementing and overseeing company's employee safety at work

    Ensure the company is in compliance and adheres to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) guidelines to reduce work-related injuries

    Advising on provisions to minimize safety risks

    Developing and enforcing OSH policies to promote occupational health and safety awareness

    Directing accident investigation procedures

    Collaborate with managers to monitor compliance and identify safety issues

    Intervene in unsafe activities or operations

    Liaise with and report to official regulatory bodies on OSH matters

    Manage and buildup Safety Committees

    Passion for safety as demonstrated by a strong commitment to associate safety

    Understands safety processes and ability to complete an internal audit/review

    Experience in leading and/or participating in safety Incident Investigations

    Knowledge of chemical and Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) systems management

    Ability to develop and effectively deliver safety training

    REQUIREMENTS

    Over 3 years of experience in certification process, auditing and self-assessment techniques and, food safety & quality systems

    Certified in HACCP & BRC

    Certified Lead Auditor ISO9001

    Certified as a FSMA Qualified Individual (QI)

    OSHA regulations and requirements is desirable

    Proven Strong experience with ether HACCP, GMP, BRC and/or ISO standard audit systems, including implementation of new standards

    Ability to communicate effectively across all levels in the organization

    Process Improvement and Problem-solving skills

    Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint

    Ability to influence change in areas where there are not direct reporting relationships

    Proven experience in performing internal and third-party audits, completing full detailed reports

    Must have a strong work ethic, interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to mentor others

    Must be able to travel throughout the year regionally and internationally (30% of the full-time activity)

    Fluent English is a must; knowledge of Spanish and other European language is a plus

    B.S. in Agriculture, Microbiology Biology, Food Safety, Food Science, Internal Auditor or related field
