This is a great opportunity for persons who excel in a fast paced, team based environment and who can perform under pressure. The Port Operations Assistant is a key role in the coordination/supervision of port, yard, M&R, and trans-load operations for Port Freeport and off-site container terminal.
Reporting to the Port Manager, the Port Operations Assistant role will focus on coordinating/supervise the logistics activities (vessel discharge/dray operation/stack yard/ warehousing) of our transfer facility, stevedore, and dedicated carrier to achieve on-time vessel departure and on-going fruit dispatch through the week. The position will require weekend LTR rotation.
Responsibilities:
Executes port yard and dray work flow based on Port Manager’s guidelines to achieve service levels and cost targets
Responsible for leading the execution of all standard operating procedures for warehouse and container stack yard
Coordinate Great White Fleet Northbound and Southbound bookings with the Cargo coordinator
Responsible for Northbound fruit Pro-forma submission and agency documentations
Coordinate USDA, CES, and CBP inspections and releases
Supervise dedicated carrier daily execution and performance
Oversee equipment maintenance programs and government regulations for compliance
Oversight of JDE/MCS vendor invoicing, purchasing programs, and SOP compliance
Responsible for updating forecasts for warehouse and yard operations cost budgets, when required
Executes stack yard and work flow based on Port Manager’s vessel operations plan to achieve service levels and cost targets
Responsible for the operational flow during vessel days: supervising the execution for devans, cross dock, storage, and stacking based on customer preference, responsible for the proper empties load back
Responsible for inventory control (live reefers/containers/chassis).
Responsible for customer appointment process and dock door efficiency
Responsible for planning and executing vessel operations
Responsible for port safety and security compliance
Constant field presence required and expected
Qualification:
3+years operations experience, preferably in port operations, terminal operations, transportation, warehousing, and/or stacked yard
Bachelor Degree or higher (in Business, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or Engineering) required Bilingual (English, Spanish) is a plus
Six Sigma, Lean certification(s)/training are a plus
