Choate Rosemary Hall seeks an independently licensed mental health counselor, reporting to the Director of Counseling. This is a full-time position with a start date of August 2022. The counselor will hold a caseload of high school students and be available to consult with families and colleagues as needed. The work hours will fall around the students' needs and may include some evenings. Experience working with adolescents who come from diverse cultural backgrounds is required. Candidates who have experience working with individuals/adolescents with eating disorders or individuals/adolescents that identify as LGBTQIA+ are preferred.

The counselor is primarily responsible for providing direct therapeutic support and counseling services to students. As a member of the counseling team, the individual works collaboratively with other counselors, our consulting psychiatrist, and the health center staff.

The counselor's responsibilities are as follows: DIRECT STUDENT SERVICES (WITHIN THE SCOPE OF THE INDIVIDUAL'S LICENSE, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE):

• Completes clinical assessments;
• Provides individual and group counseling;
• Is available to respond to students' emotional and mental health crises;
• Maintains electronic case notes and other documentation as required by State law and Health Services policies and procedures; and
• Adapts counseling techniques to ensure equitable and respectful care and support for students with diverse cultural beliefs and practices, from varied backgrounds, and with varying degrees of health and wellness literacy.

COLLABORATIVE AND CONSULTATIVE SERVICES

• Practices as part of, and consulting with, our interdisciplinary, inter-professional team of mental health and medical professionals;
• Engages and collaborates with faculty members and administration;
• Consults and coordinates care with outside providers.
• Assists with community wellness programming.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master’s degree in a mental health discipline (e.g. psychology, counseling, marriage and family therapy, or social work).
• Must be currently licensed by the State of Connecticut;
• Demonstrated experience providing licensed, direct psychological services to adolescents;
• Demonstrated understanding of and training in the delivery of culturally competent care;
• Experience in independent boarding schools or residential colleges preferred; Equivalent experience will be considered;
• Satisfactory completion of a routine background check.
