    PURPOSE

    The General Manager is responsible for the overall operations and performance of the store: growing sales, increasing profits, maintaining positive working relationships between all employees, customers, and vendors and providing leadership. As general manager, your goal is to implement and uphold our store’s culture which aligns with Choice’s mission and core values. We are a community store where relationships are of paramount importance. Therefore, the general manager must be people focused, friendly, and helpful by nature. The ideal candidate will enjoy the process of finding employment candidates and providing excellent training and continuous mentoring to everyone from department managers to dishwashers in matters of customer service, safety, product information, efficient operations and more. This is easily the most important part of the job and one which you must truly enjoy and excel at. Your experience establishing a common language of organizational goals, performance objectives, guidelines and best practices will be your most important tool in this work.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

    Team Members

    (Working with team members and the public is 80%+ of this job!)

    Recruit and schedule team members.

    Manage all levels of team members including training and development, delivering on-time performance appraisals, providing feedback, counseling and termination.

    Ensure all store team members receive onboarding and specific departmental training.

    Maintain proper coverage of employees while balancing PT vs FT schedules.

    Prepare timesheets, review exception reports and plan efficient use of labor.

    Perform timely performance reviews in cooperation with department leaders.

    Conduct regular meetings with all levels of team members.

    Operations

    Handle emergencies, crises, and any problems which occur at any time of day or night.

    Document all accidents or other incidents.

    Ensure safe and sanitary store conditions for customers and team members.

    Maintain proper working order for all equipment, coordinating with service vendors when repairs or servicing is required.

    Address and resolve customer issues in a timely manner.

    Develop efficiencies that better support and enhance the store and increase sales and profits.

    Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and company regulations and standards for all labor, health, safety and sanitation issues to maintain a safe and clean work environment for team members and customers.

    Communication and Support

    Be Consistently & Readily available by all methods of communication: in person, text, phone, email.

    Maintain positive team morale by encouraging clear communication along with an empathetic ear and firm solutions. with consistent follow through.

    Seek to be understood and to understand.

    Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to give direction.

    Keep everyone focused on purpose, redirecting and/or training when necessary.

    Leadership

    Drive store to maximum effectiveness.

    Enforce policy firmly, but with compassion.

    Exemplify commitment to the team through strong work ethic, positive attitude, flexibility, & commitment to diversity.

    Possess a strong knowledge of personnel reports, margin reports, weekly sales numbers and financial goals.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    5+ years Retail Grocery Leadership.

    Dependable AND Reliable.

    Experience building, motivating, and maintaining a productive team.

    Ability to prioritize job duties and multi-task.

    Extremely Organized and Efficient.

    Demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments.

    Exceptional Strong Attention to Detail.

    A need to exceed expectations and embrace opportunities to learn and grow.

    Comfortable with technology, POS systems & other software & hardware

    Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a strength for providing direction, as part of a team.

    Willingness to work a flexible schedule that changes as the business changes, including mornings, nights, weekends, holidays and long/unusual hours when necessary as well as having flexibility with store assignments.

    Outgoing and friendly can-do positive attitude in any situation, Non-judgmental.

    Ability to lift moderately heavy loads up to 75 lbs., the ability to bend, reach, kneel, squat, stand and to be in extreme conditions for extended periods of time (i.e., in the freezer or fridge or outdoors).
