    SUMMARY:

    This internship is designed for Tribal Team Members who would like to get practical experience in the operations of Facilities/Plant Utilities, specifically in the position of Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator. Under the supervision of the Waste Water Plant Supervisor, interns will be exposed to and responsible for assisting in the monitoring, maintenance, operation and control of the Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP), Property Wells and Water Treatment Plant (WTP) owned by Chukchansi Gold Resort and Casino/PRCI.

    Interns will have the opportunity to gain 4160 hours (2 years) of on the job training and experience necessary to perform the position successfully, and will be able to accomplish all tasks listed in the Work Plan Outline. In addition, interns will complete an approved Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification Program.

    Upon successful completion of the internship program, interns will be conferred a certificate of completion which can be used toward experience when applying to available positions.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

    • Works collaboratively with the management team, training staff and the TMCDPA to complete all portions of the internship outline/work plan.

    • Acquire the knowledge to perform general maintenance, testing, monitoring and operation of the WWTP and WTP under direct supervision of the Chief Operator.

    • Gains the ability to operate centrifuge, electric pumps, control panels and other wastewater plant equipment.

    • Learns how to perform periodic checks on equipment and systems, logs plant operations and records reading and test results.

    • Assists in routine maintenance and repairs, reports malfunctions and operating problems to WWTP/WTP Manager, and/or Operator.

    • Becomes skilled at performing routine plant housekeeping chores such as maintaining, repairing and cleaning equipment tanks and surroundings.

    • Attends seminars and training sessions on wastewater operations.

    • Monitors plant stock (inventory) of chemicals and other supplies.

    • Will be trained to test water volume and pressure; collect and test water samples for chlorine, physical and bacteriological tests.

    • Performs any reasonable request made by management.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

    High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Desire and commitment to complete an approved Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification Program, as well as study for and obtain a Grade II certification through the Inter Tribal Council of Arizona (ITCA). Must possess a valid driver's license.

    EQUIPMENT/TECHNICAL:

    Must be able to operate or learn to operate all types of hand tools, power tools, and machinery that relate to the function of a WWTP and WTP. Must be able to work with chemicals used in WWTP and WTP, climb ladders, and operate bucket truck, forklift, and safety equipment. Must be capable of meeting Confined Space protocols.

    SPECIAL QUALIFICATION:

    Enrolled PRCI Member. Must have or gain knowledge of OSHA required standards, safety requirements, and personal protective equipment used in waste water and water treatment operations. Ability to perform assigned duties under frequent time pressure in an interruptive environment. Ability to use all necessary tools and equipment to perform maintenance functions. The Operator will be required to learn computerized system programs that maintain and operate the plant. Previous computer experience is preferred. Must work well with others.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:

    Ability to read, write, and understand simple instructions. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of guests or team members.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, and work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

    REASONING ABILITY:

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to apply commonsense reasoning to a variety of situations.
