    THE OPPORTUNITY

    Help all students thrive in school and beyond through hands-on learning and career mentors. Become a Teaching Associate in the Bay Area of California. 

    Citizen Schools is partnering with Envisioneers to deliver programming for the 2021-2022 school year. The mission of Envisioneers is to combat systemic inequity in education by fostering and cultivating the academic and social-emotional skills of our scholars while exposing them to project-based learning and industry mentors.

    Citizen Schools and Envisionners seek talented, enthusiastic, and diverse educators to serve as part-time Teaching Associates (TA) in San Jose, California for the 2021-2022 academic year. Support a classroom of 10-15 students by running structured homework sessions, academic instruction, and elective classes. Provide operational support and one on one behavior management.  Part-time and full-time positions available. Part-time positions for 8:00 am - 1:00pm or 1:00pm to 6:00pm. Full-time positions available for 35 - 40 hours.

    Positions are available beginning in August 2021 and applications are accepted on a rolling basis. 

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Create opportunities for students that strengthen the connection between academic success, college, and career.
    • Create and reinforce a culture of achievement and the idea that hard work + opportunity = success
    • Provide one on one and small group behavior intervention and support

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Knowledge of and commitment to the Citizen Schools' mission
    • Academic skills – proficiency in middle school math and English
    • Coaching skills and ability to provide and receive constructive feedback
    • Commitment to teamwork and collaboration with diverse groups of people
    • Experience working with youth, middle school youth ideal
    • Ability to build relationships and influence students, colleagues, and community members
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Strong detail orientation, time management, and organization skills
    • Spanish skills a plus

    BENEFITS & COMPENSATION

    The hourly rate is $17.50. Teaching Associates receive paid training as part of their orientation to the role. Teaching Associates working 20 or more hours per week are eligible for part-time health benefits. All Teaching Associates will have opportunities for professional development and growth.
