    JOB TITLE: Math Tutor, Hourly

     

    DEPARTMENT: EXCEL! Knowledge Zone

     

    PAY RATE: $12.25-$19.15

     

    NUMBER OF OPENINGS: 1

     

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    Tutors in CCD’s Math Zone help students enrolled in CCD math courses better understand math concepts and skills.  Tutors are expected to:

      • Foster a conducive learning environment by greeting students with a positive and welcoming attitude

    • Work well with others from a variety of cultural backgrounds and learning abilities

    • Build students' critical thinking skills through modeling and guided work

    • Encourage independent work

    • Help students troubleshoot any issues with computer-based assignments

     

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

     

    Tutoring and/or teaching experience is preferred but not required.  In order to move through the hiring process, potential tutors must:

    • Demonstrate a strong understanding of college-level math concepts and skills

    • Communicate clearly

    • Guide others to a better understanding of math concepts and skills

    • Document excellence (A or B) in College Algebra (MAT 121) as well as successful completion or current enrollment in at least one course beyond College Algebra.  Any grade less than a B in College Algebra or less than a C in further math courses should be explained in the cover letter.  

     

     

    TIME COMMITMENT

     

    Up to 28 hours per week (may not exceed 28 hours per week)

     

    Training begins on Thursday, August 15, 2019

    Tutoring position begins on Monday, August 19, 2019

    1. Demonstrated leadership in driving and/or building KM in an organization or evident work in documentation of programmatic approaches and/or tools for organization-wide learning and usage.
    2. Innovative, analytical, curious, proactive, customer oriented, and solutions oriented;
    3. Versatility in all aspects of the KM process: needs assessment, strategies development, KM design and methodology, respository design and usage, KM system and processes, information system and sharing, building communities of practice, proper documenation of innovative approaches and tools while integrating with documentation with Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) data;
    4. Experience in Organizational Learning;
    5. An evident understanding of and sensitivity to issues associated with poverty, hunger, agriculture and the environment, and knowledge of the context in which non-profit organizations operate;
    6. Ability to work cross-departmentally to gather data and information, documenting that data keeping diverse audiences in mind;
    7. Excellent organizational skills, including strong attention to detail;
    8. Proven experience in building the capacity of staff to document and share organizational information;
    9. Proficient knowledge of collaboration systems and tools, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation tools, electronic mail (Microsoft Office preferred) and Internet;
    10. Demonstrated proficiency in English, both oral and written;
    11. Experience with ICT
    12. Ability to work in a team.

    6. Proven ability to work as a team and inspire staff to embrace and engage with knowledge documentation and sharing across the organization;
    7. Constant face-to-face, telephone and electronic communication with colleagues and the general public;
    8. Working with sensitive information and maintaining confidentiality;
    9. Ability to manage and execute multiple tasks with little supervision while meeting sometimes inflexible deadlines;
    10. Willingness and ability to travel.
    11. Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds (9 kilograms) floor to waist.
