Shelter Shift Supervisor Homeless Services
Overview: The Shelter Shift Supervisor is responsible for oversight and supervision of Shelter Engagement Associates, volunteer coordination, and promoting excellent public relations for the shelters in their assigned region. Their role is to ensure the execution and completion of Shelter Logistics and external relations strategies, ensuring Shelter Engagement Associates perform well in their positions and meet their goals, encouraging unity within the team, and helping staff grow and develop according to organizationally established goals for their positions.
The Shelter Engagement Associate will provide program support and assist with security at the low-threshold singles Non-Congregate Shelter. They will assist the Shelter Supervisor in maintaining a positive, professional, and safe environment in the site, protecting against external and internal disruptions. Our Shelter Engagement Associates use problem-solving, empathy, and verbal de-escalation skills to maintain a safe and secure environment for guests. They will provide general support and customer service for shelter guests including coordinating check-in, conducting property checks, providing conflict resolution, and driving passenger shuttles to the shelter from community pick-up sites. They will coordinate and assist volunteers providing meals and other supportive services, and assist with meal setup/cleanup and light cleaning. Additional areas of responsibility include but are not limited to coordinating and performing daily data entry regarding meals, supportive services, and donations; communicating policies and procedures to external constituents (e.g. current or potential providers of meals and/or supportive services); coordinating meetings and referring donations to partner agencies; setting up for and cleaning up after meals; receiving and organizing donations. City Net’s programs follow Housing First and Harm Reduction service models.
Required Competencies
Upbeat passion for ending homelessness
Minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience
City Net seeks supervisors who have an overall Servant Leadership philosophy (and use authoritative, participative, transformational/coaching, delegation, and transactional styles as needed). We do not seek leaders with Autocratic or Laissez-faire styles.
Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a nonprofit setting, preferably working with people affected by homelessness, substance use disorders, chronic health and mental health concerns, domestic- and intimate-partner violence, and/or human trafficking
Experience interacting with people affected by homelessness, substance use disorders, chronic health and mental health concerns, domestic- and intimate-partner violence, and/or human trafficking
Excellent professional boundaries; strong interpersonal, plan execution, and time management skills
Proven success and enjoyment with cultivating and maintaining productive, professional relationships with clients, partner agency representatives, and coworkers
Effective and professional networking and relationship management skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
Proficiency in PCs and Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to accomplish goals and produce valuable results with minimal supervision
Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining creativity and strategic thinking and continuing to meet or exceed goals
Ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds with varying degrees of experience
Nice To Have
Experience and homelessness services professional contacts in Sacramento County and surrounding areas.
Experience gathering and maintaining confidential client records, including intake paperwork, case notes, and client management system data entry.
Understanding of the importance of quality and timely data collection and reporting
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Social Work, Human Services, Sociology, Psychology, or a related field.
Other Requirements
This position may involve variable scheduling including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends. For example, there may be an early morning shift once per week, or a weekly evening outreach. Must be available for this type of variable schedule.
May be required to drive a company vehicle to transport clients. For insurance purposes, drivers must be at least 25 years of age, have a valid CA Drivers License, and must pass a Motor Vehicle Report.
