    RECREATION COORDINATOR – Athletics

    Salary Range: $35,526 - $37,000

    The Blue Springs Parks and Recreation Department is seeking highly self-motivated professional to plan, organize and supervise various youth & adult sports programs and community special events. Focus will also be on recreation program development and marketing of diverse program opportunities.  

    Blue Springs, MO is a suburb of Kansas City, MO sitting on the eastern city limits and is a community of approximately 58,000 residents.  The Department has been aggressively revitalizing parks and facilities over the last five years, investing over $18 million in improvements to current park facilities within the community. In April 2021, residents approved the renewal of a sales tax dedicated to park improvements, parkland development and operation subsidy.  The measure passed with 80% approval, demonstrating the support the community has for the Parks and Recreation Department and the improvements made over the last five years.  In the next two years the department will undergo a major transformation investing in the expansion of the Blue Springs Fieldhouse with a new indoor/outdoor aquatic facility.  The expansion will provide the Department with new recreational opportunities to provide the community and provide staff with the opportunity for advancement with new positions being created over the next two years.  The Department will also be constructing a new 50-acre community park and innovative improvements to playgrounds, trails, shelters, athletic fields, and several other park amenities over the 5 - 10 years.    

    The development of this new position is a result of the rapid growth of the youth and adult sports programs over the past 5 years. The department is seeking someone with a vision of excellence and a desire to build a well-rounded youth and adult sports program & event offerings. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to critically problem solve, develop athletic programs, and set work expectations and daily goals.  This is an opportunity for someone looking to step into the profession of parks and recreation.

    This is a non-exempt position and the normal work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 6:00 p.m.. This position requires flexibility to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays as programs require.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associates degree is the minimum educational requirement but a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Recreation or a related field is preferred; no experience is required but a degree or work experience in recreation, leisure, or related field is preferred.
