    Blue Springs Summer Day Camp is a 12-week program serving campers ages 5 to 12 offering activities based on weekly themes, field trips around the Kansas City Metropolitan Area, swimming, special guests, and more! We are looking for enthusiastic, innovative, and compassionate camp counselors to lead, support, and motivate campers as they enjoy all that camp has to offer in a safe manner. Camp jobs offer invaluable skill-building and experiences that will enhance your job marketability.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Assists in planning, teaching, and coordinating activities. Guides campers in their personal growth and recreation while ensuring a safe and positive environment.
    • Administers standards of behavior and discipline to ensure the safety and well-being of campers in a specific assigned group of day campers. Communicate policies and enforcement procedures to campers for the purpose of ensuring their understanding and the potential consequences of violation.
    • Interacts with all campers and parents/guardians in a polite and professional manner.
    • Partner positively with other Camp staff members to plan and coordinate camp events while ensuring compliance with Camp rules/
    • Assists in maintaining camp equipment, work area, camper's files/records, and attendance records for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items and/or providing reliable information.
    • Maintains a variety of records such as accident and incident reports, discipline, daily attendance, checklists, timesheets, etc.) and ensures these records are submitted to the Day Camp Manager.
    • Knows, understands, and enforces all emergency action plans, and safety guidelines associated with the Summer Day Camp program.
    • Obey and comply with all City of Blue Springs, Blue Springs Parks and Recreation, State and Local ordinances and policies.

    SKILLS, COMPETENCIES, AND QUALIFICATIONS

    Must be 16 years of age or older. Previous experience in working with youth is strongly preferred. Letters of reference or recommendation are strongly preferred and highly regarded.

    Must be willing to attain CPR and First Aid Certification (training will be provided).

    Must have strong written and verbal communication skills. Must possess the ability to foster positive, healthy relationships with children. Must possess the skills to implement programs activities. Must possess a Safety-Aware mindset and skills to prevent accidents - must react calmly and professionally should accidents occur.

    The ability to work well with patrons of all ages is required. The ability to concentrate and accomplish tasks despite interruptions and perform a variety of tasks simultaneously is required in this position as well as the ability to work independently and follow oral and written instructions.

    Physical Requirements - Must be able to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear frequently; must be able to frequently use hands to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or office machines; must be able to frequently reach with hands and arms; must be able to occasionally lift, move, push, pull, or transport up to 50 pounds at least 25 feet; must have close vision and the ability to adjust focus frequently. Most work is performed in various aquatic, athletic, recreational, or performing arts settings where noise levels are frequently moderate to loud, and occasionally loud.
