    ABOUT THE POSITION: 

    This is a professional managerial position reporting to a Campus Academic Dean.  The Program Director oversees the development, implementation and promotion of a Postsecondary Vocational Program. Work requires the analysis of complex problems, planning of various interrelated activities, and the coordination of effort of multiple projects or functions, in addition to formulating and maintaining programmatic budgets. 

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES: 

    • Direct the establishment of policies and procedures governing selection and progression of students through the program.
    • Develop the curriculum framework and all instructional materials for the program.
    • Assemble and compile all materials required for accreditation or certification of the program.
    • Disseminates program information to appropriate college recipients (administrators, advisors, faculty, and program students) and appropriate recipients outside the college (accreditation or certifications agencies, state agencies, etc.).
    • Evaluate the preparation of students for entry into the program and administer all aspects of the selection process if a limited access program.
    • Assess the strengths and weaknesses of program students to improve the instructional framework.
    • Coordinate the evaluation of students for readiness for entry into the practice.
    • Supervise adjunct instructors employed by the program.
    • Coordinate practicums, clinicals, internships, joint ventures and/or work-related educational experiences for program students.
    • Coordinate contacts with clinical/work related sites including negotiating for new sites, as necessary.
    • Direct the development of the appropriate support laboratory on the campus, if applicable.
    • Coordinate acquisition of ancillary demonstration materials from appropriate vendors.
    • Ensure continuity of the program courses so that all required objectives will be obtained.
    • Participate in marketing and recruiting activities for the program including Open Houses, brochures, web page, etc.
    • Provide curriculum leadership and coordinates program evaluation and curriculum revision activities.
    • Monitor program adherence to state regulations/national accreditation criteria.
    • Provide leadership in developing and establishing department programs and policies.
    • Act as spokesperson for department and/or college, as required, to area hospitals, agencies, other community activities, and state, regional and national organizations.
    • Oversee the development preparation and utilization of the departments department’s budget and instructional materials.
    • Develop, with faculty participation, department goals and strategies to achieve goals to meet community needs. 
    • Develop and administers appropriate staff development activities.
    • Develop staffing plans and schedules, and delegates work assignments.
    • Train, evaluate, reward, and encourage, as well as discipline assigned employees.
    • Direct departmental activities so that projects are completed efficiently and in a timely manner.
    • Enforce Polk State College policies and procedures.
    • Oversee all aspects of advisory committee meetings including calling the bi-annual meetings, working with the Committee chair to set the agenda, ensuring minutes are kept, and following up on all programmatic issues.
    • Assist grant writers with grant applications, when applicable and oversee implementation of program affiliated grants.

     

    This position is a level P16. TO DETERMINE STARTING SALARY, POLK STATE COLLEGE TAKES INTO CONSIDERATION THE PAY LEVEL MINIMUM, THE CANDIDATE'S QUALIFICATIONS AND INTERNAL EQUITY FACTORS.

    Required Skills

     

    • Knowledge of principles and practices of professional training and development program design.
    • Knowledge of curriculum development, instructional method theory, and practical applications.
    • Ability to communicate orally and in writing with a variety of contacts of considerable importance within, and outside of, the college.  Contacts outside the college where lack of tact or judgment may result in negative college relations to a limited degree.
    • Ability to work independently with the responsibility for planning details and methods to obtain definite objectives and to make decisions within broad limitations of policy and professional standards.
    • Ability to work cooperatively with college personnel.
    • Excellent written and oral communications skills.

     

    REQUIRED EDUCATION:

    • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a BACHELOR'S DEGREE required. 

    • Must have successfully completed Levels A and B coursework listed in Table I and Table II as identified in the National Guidelines for Educating EMS Instructors, August, 2002 edition, which is incorporated by reference and available from the department, as defined by subsection 64J-1.001(9), F.A.C., or at http://www.nhtsa.gov; or has qualified for one of the exemptions in subsection 64J-1.0201(5), F.A.C.

    • Certification as a Florida paramedic, in good standing with the department.

      

     

    Required Experience

    • At least four years field level provider experience in the pre-hospital environment with an Advanced Life Support (ALS) provider.
    • Must have a minimum of two (2) years teaching experience as a Level B instructor.
    • Must have the knowledge and experience to be American Heart Association Training Center Coordinator.
    • Must be a NAEMT Training Center Coordinator

     

    Instructor status certification in the following areas:

     

    AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION (AHA)

    • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

     

    THE COMMISSION ON CRIMINAL JUSTICE STANDARDS AND TRAINING

    • First Aid

     

    NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIANS.
