  • Responsibilities

    The purpose of this position is to oversee day-to-day operations of parks and recreation centers. This is primarily accomplished by developing, implementing, administering and supervising programs and/or youth council and special events for the community by supervising staff and implementing plans.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Develops and oversees a variety of programs and special events by planning, coordinating, and executing.
    • Supervises staff by prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, ensuring staff are trained and follow policies and procedures, maintaining a healthy and safe working environment, and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
    • Coordinates brochures by collecting and writing up program information.
    • Sets up and takes registrations for programs and/or classes in software program or directly from customer.
    • Handles difficult customer situations during activities.
    • Assists other organizations, programs, and/or events as needed with input, opinions, and/or manpower.

     

    SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Performs other similar duties as required.

    Knowledge:

    • Athletic activities principles and practices
    • Customer service principles and practices
    • Supervisory principles and practices
    • Applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations
    • Project management principles

     

    LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS:

    • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License

    WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Positions in this class require:  standing, fine dexterity, walking, lifting, carrying, sitting, reaching, handling, kneeling, crawling, pushing/pulling, climbing, vision, foot controls, balancing, bending, crouching, hearing, twisting, talking.

    • Medium Work: Exerting 20-50 pounds occasionally, 10-25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly.

    • Incumbents may be subjected to extreme temperature, wetness and/or humidity, physical hazards.

    • Supervising and evaluating seasonal employees and/or volunteers;
    • Prioritizing and assigning work;
    • Event coordination;
    • Basic mathematics;
    • Operating a computer and applicable software applications;
    • Applying local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations;
    • Analyzing problems and implementing solutions;
    • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

    Required Experience

    Associate's degree or diploma from an accredited college, technical, business, vocational, or correspondence school, with at least one year of relevant supervisory experience; or the City may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
