    Job Description

    The Dacono Police Department is seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual for the position of Police Office Assistant. We are seeking qualified candidates to fill 1 full-time position.

    JOB DESCRIPTION INCLUDES BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO:

    Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Police and the daily general direction of the Police Administrative Assistant/Municipal Court Clerk, the Police Office Assistant performs general administrative and professional work in the areas of customer service office and departmental duties in direct support of the Police Administrative Assistant/Municipal Court Clerk position including performing the required function of the Municipal Court Clerk on court dates, in the absence of the Municipal Court Clerk.

    QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION: • High school diploma or GED. • Working knowledge of open records laws preferred, but not required. • National Incident Base Reporting System (NIBRS) experience preferred, but not required. • Criminal justice system records management experience preferred, but not required. • Must be detail oriented with attention to accuracy. • Must be able to multitask with frequent interruptions. • Must be computer literate with accurate typing and data entry skills.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Current CCIC/NCIC certification or ability to obtain within 90 days after hire.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. • Must possess good written and verbal communication skills. • Ability to read and interpret documents such as statutes, policy & procedure manuals.

    • Ability to speak effectively with internal or external customers. • Must possess excellent customer service, interpersonal communication and conflict management skills. • Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. • Ability to function independently and in full capacity as the Municipal Court Clerk when the Municipal Court Clerk is absent. • Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions, unusual demands, and changing priorities.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit at a desk and use hands and fingers to type; must be able to reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. May frequently be required to stoop or kneel; must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.
