    The Membrane Water Treatment Specialist I is an entry level position. Incumbents normally advance to the next available level after obtaining a class I Water License and gaining all the experience and achieving proficiency which meet the requirements of a Membrane Water Treatment Specialist I.

    ** Job Summary:** Under close supervision, performs skilled technical and manual duties in the daily operation and maintenance of the City’s Class III Membrane Water Treatment Plant and Distribution System. Work involves producing and distributing potable drinking water; records data regarding treatment plant and distribution system including pressures, tank levels, flow rates and water quality using a computerized SCADA system; adjusts system pressures and tank levels through the use of, feed pumps, high service pumps and booster stations. Assists with or performs chemical testing, including but not limited to pH, chlorine residual, fluoride concentration, color, hardness levels, turbidity and alkalinity, and determines proper corrective measures based on test results. Performs plant maintenance such as cleaning and backwashing intake screens, cleaning and calibrating chemical feeders, membrane performance and integrity testing, and assisting with cleaning of flocculation and sedimentation basins. Assists with diagnosing problems with mechanical or electrical equipment and performs tasks such as isolating valves, pumps or motors as necessary. Records and maintains operational and laboratory data; assists with the preparation of daily and monthly reports; Assists with or performs building and grounds maintenance. Performs other related duties as assigned. Reports to: Water Plant Supervisor.

    ** Minimum Training and Experience : **

    Requires a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); Class I Water Certification and one to two years of related experience in a class I or higher water treatment plant. Membrane filtration experience is preferred. Must possess a valid West Virginia driver's license, and maintain in the permitted timeframe, the certifications required by WVDEP’s Division of Water and Waste, training and certification of which is overseen by the West Virginia Department of Human Resources, the Environmental Health Services division. May be required to possess or obtain additional certification(s) as deemed necessary by the Chief Operator.

    ** Physical Requirements** : Must be physically able to operate a variety of tools, vehicles, heavy equipment and general office equipment. Generally lifts, carries, pushes, pulls, or otherwise moves objects. Position involves regularly standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching, bending, twisting, crouching, stooping, making repetitive motions, kneeling, crawling, balancing, talking and/or hearing. The employee sometimes sits and sometimes tastes or smells. This job is considered as moderate physical activity performing somewhat strenuous daily activities of a primarily productive/technical nature. The job requires manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, work with the fingers, and perceive objects and materials. Employee generally lifts up to 25 pounds, sometimes up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lifts up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision; Distance vision; Peripheral vision; Depth perception; Ability to adjust focus.
