  • Responsibilities

    Job Description

    • Transports inmates for court appearances, psychological and medical evaluation and treatment and other activities.
    • Maintains the care, custody and control of individuals being transported.
    • Transports or assists other department personnel in the transportation of prisoners to locations; to and from court armed with firearm.
    • Drives a department vehicle to transport individuals that have been detained/arrested by department personnel.
    • Performs physical searches of individuals and transport vehicle for contraband and seizes such as evidence.
    • Books/processes individuals into federal/state/local/county detention facilities to include completing necessary paperwork.
    • Transports evidence to and from department facilities while maintaining proper chain of custody.
    • Applies physical force required if necessary to restrain an intoxicated, rowdy, or abusive prisoner.  Any and all uses of physical force must comply with department policy and be consistent with department training.  
    • Screens individuals, without exception, and search courtroom chambers, hallways, and associated rooms and offices to prevent the introduction of contraband or dangerous weapons into a courtroom; serve as lunch relief for Court Security Officer.
    • Administers to the needs of the court and maintaining and preserving order in the courtroom to ensure that proper decorum is observed by litigants, attorneys, witnesses and spectators; ensure the safety and security of jurors as required by law; assist with in-custody individuals in courtroom and jail.
    • Operates and maintains job-related equipment.
    • Provides assistance with stranded motorists, traffic control and collision scene management when necessary and per department policy.
    • Prepares and completes detailed reports, forms, logs and required paperwork.
    • Attends assigned training.
    • Testifies in court regarding relevant job-related incidents.
    • Oversees court ordered community service work-crew as scheduled by Fife Municipal Court.
    • Receives and deposits cash for the Criminal Justice Center and City Hall on a daily basis and other City Departments at the direction of the Chief of Police.
    • Provides daily courier service of interdepartmental mail for the Criminal Justice Center and City Hall.
    • Works rotating shifts including nights, weekends and holidays, if needed.

    • Ensures compliance with all policies and procedures to represent the department positively
    • Performs related duties as assigned
    • Attends training specific to position to include, but not limited to, Firearms, Defensive Tactics, TASER, OC, Use of Force, and Emergency Vehicle Operation.

    EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: 

    • High school diploma or equivalent.

     

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS, LICENSES, AND CERTIFICATIONS

    • In accordance with FMC 2.52.310, must be a U.S. Citizen 21 years of age or older.
    • Must have a valid Washington State driver's license at time of appointment.
    • Ability to possess CJIS ACCESS1 certification within six months of employment and successfully recertify biennially thereafter.

    • Ability to prevent escapes of offenders.
    • Ability to react in an emergency and make sound, rational decisions, demonstrating good judgment and work in a hostile environment.

    • Ability to safely operate a City vehicle in a variety of weather conditions.   
    • Ability to safely restrain and transport prisoners without personal injury, using proper techniques consistent with department training and policies.  
    • Ability to observe critically, obtain accurate data, and prepare written records and reports.
    • In accordance with WAC 296-24,296-62, and 296-155, the training needs for this classification include the following: first aid, protective equipment, fire suppression, hazard communication, and blood borne pathogens. 
    • Ability to successfully complete mandatory job-related training requirements.  
    • Ability to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with supervisor, coworkers, trustees, police personnel and the public.  
    • Ability to present a positive image and relate to the public in a pleasant and courteous manner.  
    • Demonstrate physical strength and agility necessary to perform the essential functions.  
    • Ability to maintain composure and self-control under adverse conditions.
    • Ability to use common sense and be flexible in all matters.
