    Job Description

    POSITION DESCRIPTION:

    Under the direction of the Community Engagement Manager, assist in the planning, coordinating and promotion of special events, as well as marketing programs and special projects.   Must be flexible to work days, evenings, and weekends. 20-40 hours per week. This temporary position is anticipated to begin August 1, 2019 and last until December 2019.  

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

    • Assist with the development and distribution of marketing materials, (both digital and print), for special events.
    • Assist in creation and management of social media content and other marketing materials.
    • Promote events and programs within the community by working with other staff to develop and produce marketing tools.
    • Assist with creating and maintaining records applicable to the City of Fife special events.
    • Register participants and customers in recreation software program for events.
    • Effectively develop and maintain a positive work environment.
    • Effectively coordinate/manage volunteers and staff on event days.
    • Assist with contract process for entertainers and vendors.
    • Assist with developing communication plan and getting vendors and volunteers' information.
    • Assist with developing and coordinating activities.
    • Communicate effectively with city personnel, outside agencies and members of the community to exchange information, coordinate activities and resolve issues or concerns.
    • Operate a variety of office and event equipment and a city vehicle to conduct work.
    • Attend and participate in assigned meetings and training sessions.
    • Contribute to on-site event facilitation and direction.
    • Assist with set-up and takedown of events.
    • Assist with procurement of outside funding opportunities through solicitation of sponsorships and other fundraising activities for event enhancement.
    • Monitor program budgets. Monitor and coordinate expenditures in accordance with established procedures. 
    • Effectively respond to public inquiries for programs and events.
    • Assist with content management for the City website.
    • Develops and places advertising in appropriate publications.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

    Any combination equivalent to:  Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Business, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or closely related field. Two years' experience in a position working with event management, marketing or related area.   LICENSES:  Possession of and maintain a valid driver's license. Must have a good driving record. Must obtain food handlers permit.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

    KNOWLEDGE OF:

    • Operations and activities of community recreation programs and special events.
    • Social media management.
    • Marketing best practices, and promotional production techniques.
      • InDesign experience strongly preferred.
    • Interpersonal communication skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
    • Operation of a computer and assigned software.
    • Record keeping and report preparation techniques.

      ABILITY TO:

    • Organize, coordinate and facilitate community events.
    • Assist in planning, coordinating and monitoring the operations and activities of special events.
    • Train and provide work direction and guidance to volunteers.
    • Interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures to patrons.
    • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
    • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
    • Work independently with little direction.
    • Comprehend and maintain compliance with all applicable health and safety regulations.
    • Operate a computer and assigned software.
    • Maintain records and prepare reports.
    • Plan and organize work.
    • Must be able to read, write and speak English.
