    POSITION PURPOSE

    Under general supervision, performs routine labor related to Recreation Department operations and maintenance.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

    • Oversees the opening and closing of park facilities at night and on weekends.
    • Drives tractor in repair and maintenance of park facilities.
    • Drags, marks, and maintains ball fields daily, during season.
    • Removing trash from all parks and hauling trash to City landfill and cleans trash containers.
    • Cleans and maintains pool and surrounding areas.
    • Plants grass, trees, and shrubs.
    • Repairs fences.
    • Sharpens blades of tractors and mowers.
    • Does minor park facility construction.
    • Mowing and trimming in all parks and other required areas.
    • General cleaning, repairs, and maintenance of facility buildings and equipment.
    • Assists with opening and closing of all park facilities daily and on weekends.
    • General maintenance duties including raking leaves, painting buildings and equipment, cleaning swimming pool, trimming trees and shrubs, digging and cleaning ditches, cleaning restrooms, picking up trash in parks, and upkeep of playground areas.
    • Assist with recognizing and correcting safety concerns in all park facilities.
    • Performs other work as required.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Graduation from an accredited high school or its equivalent (GED) supplemented by one (1) year of responsible maintenance experience.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENT(S):

    • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening test.
    • Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
    • Willingness to work irregular hours.
    • Subject to background check and annual driver's license check.

    SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    • Must be familiar with and able to operate a tractor in mowing and to use in conjunction with a loader and grader blade.
    • Ability to operate light equipment such as lawn mowers, weed trimmers, drills, and chain saws.
    • Willingness to perform routine manual work for extended periods and under adverse weather conditions.
    • Ability to lift heavy objects.
    • Possess stamina for continual daily work.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other employees and the public.
