    Engineer Intern

    Part Time - 25 hours/week, Monday - Friday

    Position Overview

    The Engineer Intern will assist the Engineering Department with performing engineering, drafting, surveying or inspection tasks and mathematical computations associated with engineering office or field operations. Assignments require the application of precise engineering knowledge gained through training and experience in the area of specialization. Assignments are received in both specific and general terms. Performance is e valuated through inspections and observations to determine adherence to stated objectives and conformity with accepted engineering principles.

    Essential Job Functions

    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

    • Assist the Engineering Department with various tasks

    • Draft details and make minor CAD revisions

    • Assist with inspections on commercial and residential sites for compliance to approved plans.

    • Assists Staff Land Surveyor and crew on surveying projects when needed.

    • Assist with data collection, input, verification, and manipulation

    • Performs related work as required.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Must posses required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate , with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

    • Considerable knowledge on the use of personal computers and the use of civil engineering software programs

    • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments

    • Ability to express ideas effectively orally and in writing

    • Skill in the use of Arc GIS and CityWorks

    • Skill in the use of AutoCAD Civil 3-D drafting software

    Education and Experience

    Enrolled in pursuit of Bachelor's Degree In Civil Engineering or related field.

    Required Licenses or Certificates

    Possession of a Mississippi Class R or higher drivers' license.

    Physical Demands and Working Conditions

    Physical requirements include occasional lifting/carrying of 50+ pounds; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate equipment. Subject to sitting, standing, reaching, walking, twisting and kneeling to perform the essential functions. Working conditions are both indoors and outdoors.
