Summary:
The City of Kenmore is seeking a community-oriented Farmers Market Lead for the 2023 season. This role will lead planning and preparations ahead of the market season, and execution of successful weekly Wednesday markets June - August 2023. This position is responsible for setup, management and tear-down for the 13 Kenmore Farmers Markets. Because of the small number of City employees, each staff member is expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties as may be required from time to time.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Manage final preparations for the markets. Including: vendor recruitment, applications, contracts, verifying products, vendor selection, and vendor scheduling for the season
• Participate in the Kenmore Farmers Market Volunteer Committee meetings and work closely with committee members
• Connect with industry experts and attend membership meetings
• Serve as the primary lead of operations on Market days (13 total), Wednesdays June - August. The market is an outdoor event in the summer in the Pacific Northwest and a variety of weather events are expected
• Set-up and tear-down of necessary market infrastructure including City tent, market and sponsor signage, and vendor booth stall assignments
• Oversee and assist vendor set-up with clear directions for vendors and stall locations for each. This includes planning weekly vendor layout from a list of known vendors and keeping flexible plans for absences
• Send out weekly instructions to respective vendors and volunteers
• Coordinate SNAP and WIC program reporting. Help implement on market days. Serve as a backup for the program as needed
• Maintain weekly and monthly market performance reports with community headcount and vendor sales
• Maintain and build relationships with vendors and non-profit organizations
• Keep inventory of needed equipment
• Maintain and build relationships with volunteers who will assist with market set-up and information services
• Develop awareness to market operational codes, create and maintain compliance strategies for vendors and the public and serve as the primary contact person for government officials as necessary during market events (Department of Health, Department of Agriculture, etc.)
• Conduct weekly Department of Health check on applicable vendors.

Education and Experience:
This position typically requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent, and two (2) years of progressive experience in administrative support and customer service, preferably in event management, farmers markets, or related field. Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the knowledge skills and abilities may be considered.
Licenses and Certificates:
• A valid driver’s license is required in order to drive a City vehicle to various locations to perform work, load and unload event supplies and equipment at various sites throughout the City of Kenmore, and to drive to other locations throughout King County, when needed.
Additional Information:
• Hours of Work - City Hall working hours are typically 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. This position is seasonal, 20 hours per week. Must be able to work a flexible schedule. This position is expected to work evenings, extended hours at events, or attend meetings outside normal business hours, weekends and/or holidays, varied shifts and days. This position requires attendance at the 13 Kenmore Farmers Markets.
• Work Environment – Work performed will primarily take place in the field at event sites, with exposure to varied climate conditions, such as inclement weather and heat. Some time may be spent indoors in an office environment. Position will require lifting (frequently up to 20 pounds occasionally up to 40 pounds), physical labor (pulling, pushing, etc.), and frequent movement such as standing and walking.
• Safety Requirements –Required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
• Security Requirements – The successful candidate must pass a post-offer, pre-hire criminal background check.
