    JOB SUMMARY Provides technical assistance and support for the Development Assistance Planning Division. Assists citizens, developers, and staff in addressing planning and zoning related inquiries both in person and over the phone, reviews and processes various permits and development applications, and performs other administrative duties as required by supervisor. MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (This job description does not intend to list every function of the position.) ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS -Responds to routine planning and zoning inquiries in person, by phone, and by e-mail from citizens and the development community as related to land development procedures, regulations and ordinances. -Reviews single family residential building permits, sign permits and fence permits to ensure compliance with all applicable zoning requirements. -Reviews zoning verification and business license requests to ensure compliance with all applicable zoning requirements. -Enters development case and permit applications into the planning database system. -Maintains the city webpage and PeopleSpeaks webpage as it relates to planning cases. -Performs various administrative duties to include organizing meetings, making travel arrangements and processing invoices, vouchers, and ordering office supplies. -Maintains a calendar of events for staff meetings, DAT meeting and Board and Commission meetings. -Acts as the secretary to Boards and Commissions within Planning; sets up meetings, attends routine night meetings and records minutes, processes and distributes meeting minutes. -Prepares legal notifications for neighborhood, and Board and Commission meetings, including updating meeting calendar, preparing and mailing notices. -Must drive between City facilities and off-site locations to set-up and take down meetings. -Performs other duties as assigned. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS Supervision Received: Receives general supervision from the Division Manager. Supervision Given: None. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. Prefer Bachelor's degree in City or Regional Planning or related field. 2 years of customer service experience required. A Planning internship is preferred. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Valid driver's license and good driving record. Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities -Technical abilities such as computer mapping and graphics, drafting and computer word processing. -Ability to manage Planning - Development Assistant Division webpage. -Ability to work independently and within a team. -Ability to provide excellent customer service. -Ability to effectively manage difficult situations, sensitive issues, and people who may be upset. -Ability to demonstrate organizational and time management skills to handle a variable workload on a daily basis and communicate with staff when conflicts or problems arise. -Ability to locate properties on a map. -Ability to demonstrate high attention to detail. -Background check required. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Lifting and Carrying: Must be able to lift and move and supplies weighing up 30 pounds. Body Positions: Majority of the workday is spent at a desk or counter working with citizens and staff. Hearing: Must be able to respond to telephone and in person requests from citizens and staff. Vision: Must be able to read maps, plans, computer screens, and handwriting on a variety of forms. MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Mathematics: Basic skills to include addition, subtraction, multiplication and division for determining fees and zoning standards. Language Ability: Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with citizens and staff. Reasoning: Use reasoning to interpret codes and ordinances.
