    JOB SUMMARY Responsible for assisting with the development, implementation and evaluation of a Before & After School and a Summer Day Camp Program. Programs and activities include, but are not limited to, supervision of children to and from school, recreational, social and educational activities, and ensuring the safety of all children in the program. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Assists with the development, control and management of a Before & After School Program and a Summer Day Camp program budget for assigned site. Responsible for effectively supervising program activities including preparing monthly and quarterly reports, monitoring the budget to ensure the program is meeting its goals, evaluating programs and services and ensuring that all applicable licensing standards are upheld. Responsible for ensuring accessibility of programs, services and activities. Responsible for program development, implementation, and evaluation of Before/After School and Summer Day Camp programs for participants ages 5-12. Conducts or coordinates appropriate special events and field trips. Coordinates registration of participants through RecTrac. Ensures that necessary supplies are available for programs. Plans and implements age-appropriate program activities. Plans program activities for no school days. Provides a safe, supervised environment for all participants. Establishes effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, parents, participants and host site. Must be able to interact with others in a positive manner. Requires regular and prompt attendance. IMPORTANT JOB FUNCTIONS Develops and recommends annual goals and objectives. Evaluates and makes recommendations relative to improving the utilization of human resources in service delivery. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS Supervision Received Receives general supervision from the School Age & Support. Services Supervisor. Supervision Given Supervises variable, part-time employees. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) Education Must be Director qualified (as defined by Minimum Rules and Regulations for school-aged child-care centers which includes having verifiable education and training in work with school-age children in such areas as recreation, education, scouting, or 4-H; and must meet a least one of the following qualifications). These qualifications include either: A 4-year college degree from an accredited college, with a major such as recreation, education with a specialty in art, elementary or early childhood education, or a subject in the human service field; OR two years of college training and 6 months of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time, paid or volunteer, experience, since attaining the age of 18, in the care and supervision of four or more children OR three years of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time, paid or volunteer, experience, since attaining the age of 18, in the care and supervision of four or more children. The program director must complete six semester hours, nine quarter hours, or 40 clock hours of training in course work applicable to school-age children within the first nine months of employment. Licensure/Certification/Registration Must hold a current certification in Community CPR and First Aid (or achieve within 1 month of hire date) and have experience with youth programs. Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Must have the ability to appropriately supervise and direct school-age children in an unstructured setting. Have an interest, respect for, and ability to work with children. Ability to demonstrate effective communication with school-age children, parents and staff. Organizational skills. Must know, understand and administer minimum rules and regulations for school-age child-care centers. Ability to work independently and as a team member. Ability to use a computer and an iPad. Basic knowledge of mental and physical disabilities, abilities and limitations. Must be able to be involved in children's activities, including arts and craft projects, and various games. Criminal background check, fingerprint check and an FBI background check are required. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS - POST OFFER PHYSICAL IS REQUIRED PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Lifting and Carrying Must be able to lift equipment used in a child-care setting weighing up to 30 pounds. Pushing and Pulling Using assistance (cart, team lift, etc.) will push or pull boxes weighing up to 50 pounds into and out of storage area. Body Positions Bends, sits on floor, moves about, and stands in activities with children. Drives to several sites on a weekly basis. Hearing Employee must be able to respond to telephone and other audible equipment. Must hear children in classroom and on the playground and be able to effectively communicate with children, program families and staff members. Vision Uses vision to read hand writing and other written communication including memos and letters. MENTAL REQUIREMENTS Mathematics Must have basic addition, subtraction and multiplication skills for calculating data and working on complex budget. Remembering Must be able to remember details of staffing patterns, rules and regulations, daily schedules, emergency procedures and operation of equipment. Language Ability Must be able to read and comprehend Human Services rules and regulations, memos and other written communication. Must be able to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally. Reasoning Must make decisions on a day-to-day basis regarding program issues, supervision of staff, interactions with parents and other professionals. Must be able to evaluate and make recommendations on programs. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is generally performed in a day care setting, which includes interaction with children inside as well as outdoors. Work involves frequent interruptions and changing priorities. Schedule is adaptive and flexible to ensure appropriate staff coverage during program hours.
