    Engineering Technician - Grade 16

    POSITION DETAILS

    Salary: Starting at $23.39/hour (DOE)

    Status: Non-Exempt/Full-Time

    SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

    The engineering technician performs technical work for the planning and engineering department in the areas of data collection and data entry for database systems used by the city as well as assisting with other routine departmental duties.

    MAJOR DUTIES: 

    • Uses GIS system to create and retrieve data as well as to produce maps and diagrams in order to share information to locate city infrastructure and to plan city infrastructure projects.
    • Assists in creating plans for various municipal infrastructure projects as well as compiling data for the purpose of planning infrastructure projects.
    • Uses AutoCAD in the creation of infrastructure project plans as well as city detail revisions.
    • Uses computer hardware and software to produce documents, spreadsheets, databases, and file electronic documents.
    • Assists in construction observation and inspections of projects relating to municipal infrastructure, and boulevard improvements as well as ensuring that stormwater management plans are correctly being followed. References plans and specifications and standard practices to determine compliance or make necessary revisions as directed by the project manager. Regularly prepares reports to engineering project manager on status of various construction projects as assigned. 
    • Has the ability to use GPS survey equipment with data collectors for infrastructure data collection and location assistance for municipal construction projects. Searches for survey monuments as necessary for planning infrastructure and site development.
    • Performs, as required, clerical duties such as printing, compiling data, data input, photocopying, phone answering, scanning and filing construction plans.
    • Counts traffic at intersections for traffic, speed and pavement studies and observes placement of traffic control devices for municipal construction projects.
    • Performs related duties.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

    • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a associates degree in Civil Engineering or a course of study related to the occupational field.

    • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for two years.

    • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Dakota for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

    • Applicants who are residents of North Dakota and eligible to claim veteran’s preference must include Form DD-214.
