Engineering Tech City of McPherson Public Works Department - Engineering Division POSITION SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Public Works Director, the Engineering Technician is a non-exempt position under FLSA. This position is responsible for assisting the Public Works Director in the management of city streets, sanitary sewers and storm sewers. Preparation of contracts, working with contractors, developers, and the general public is required. The Engineering Technician is skilled in the preparation of required details, drawings, and design plans for the purpose of construction. Excellent technical and computer skills are required. This employee must be able to work effectively with the public and possess excellent communication skills. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Provides technical support to the Public Works Director; - Performs technical research and engineering data collection; - Responsible for maintaining the computer data files for department and recommend upgrades as needed; - Responsible for maintaining the Pavement Management System and the work order system; - Responsible for maintaining traffic signal timing, programming and video detection; - Operates and maintains the city's GIS system and provides GIS support to other City departments; - Responsible for setting traffic counters and providing data analysis; - Reviews legal survey documents for the city and state; - Prepares required details, drawings, and designs; - Prepares lists of quantities, specifications, and cost estimates for projects; - Reviews plans and surveys; - Performs surveying work; - Assists with the operation and use of computer equipment; - Follows safety procedures and practices; - Follows department policies and procedures.
