    Job Description

    The Communications Intern will work with the OIA to plan, schedule, and execute public outreaches and cultural events. The internship will start in September 2017. We ask for a 3 to 6-month commitment at 15-20 hours a week. Knowledge of event planning and use of social media for public outreach is strongly preferred. This is an unpaid internship and is ideal for undergraduate and graduate students looking to professionalize and to diversify their record. This position can accommodate variable class schedules and student needs. The internship can also be arranged to fulfill academic credits and program requirements. In this position, the intern will gain valuable insight to the inner workings of city government and immigration advocacy. The intern will also attain excellent professional experience outside the academic setting. The Communications Intern will report to the Deputy Director but will work with the Director, Deputy Director, and Language Access Program Manager. Primary responsibilities are to plan and promote public events including, but not limited to the OIA Welcoming Week, Immigrant Business Week, and Immigrant Heritage Month. The intern will also create OIA promotional materials and maintain the Office’s social media accounts, website content, newsletters, and public events calendar.
