Are you always on your phone or computer making digital media to share on social media or the web? Then come join our team. Scottsdale Water is looking for an intern to provide a variety of communications and public affairs assistance in support of educating customers and the public regarding division objectives. The position will use creativity and multi-media platforms to create graphics, communications publications, and videos in order to engage and educate the public on a variety of topics.This individual must demonstrate a willingness and ability to:Freehand, photographic and computer techniques, materials, processes, and equipment used in the design and preparation of: graphics, illustration, and publications.Must be proficient with some form of the following tools: Photoshop, InDesign and Acrobat Pro.Creating quality videos from original concept through completion.Knowledge of social media platforms and media requirements.Produce creative projects from idea to finish and take creative direction from a variety of city employees.Communicate ideas effectively through oral, visual and written communication.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other City staff at all levels and the public.Utilize Microsoft Office products and other relevant technologies to accomplish project objectives.Use desktop publishing and computer-aided design hardware and software.The principles, practices and procedures used in public affairs and communications.Selection Process:Applicants whose education, training and experience most closely meet the needs of this position may be invited to participate in a selection process to include an interview panel and submission of a work sample.Please Note:A sample of photography, graphic design and/or video creation will be required from those who are selected to participate in the interview process.Final selection is contingent upon a background check which includes: FingerprintingCriminal Background screening for the past 7 yearsDrug ScreenMotor vehicle record checkPlease note: Due to this position being part-time, it is unclassified, meaning it is at-will and serves at the discretion of the City. Minimum Qualifications Education and ExperienceNo experience required for this position.Must be currently enrolled or recently graduated within a year from an accredited college or university degree program in Communications, Journalism, Public Affairs, Graphic Design, Digital Filmmaking, Video Editing or a related field.For those who are invited to interview, a sample of photography, graphic design and/or video creation will be required at time of interview.Licensing, Certifications and Other RequirementsDepending on assignment, must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work. Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on division/section assignment. Essential Functions Water Resources Public Information Office Assignment:Develops layout and design for projects which includes, but not limited to: logos, interactive media, brochures, flyers, reports, and mailings.Produces videos for internal and external use including web and social media.Prepares varied professional graphics, layout design, commercial art, mapping, and illustration projects.Takes photographs and videography for the division and utilize software such as Photoshop to edit and improve quality.Plans, organizes, and evaluates technical considerations such as: photography, graphics, design layout, and camera work.Prepares freehand and computer generated: artwork, graphics, maps, drawings, lettering, photographs, layout, and design work.Provides creative and graphics-related assistance for publicity campaigns and projects.Writes, shoots and edits videos for use on City media-channels; writes, shoots and edits video programs for internal use for City employees.Compresses and uploads video to web.Represent the City's Water Resources Division at community events.Work Environment/Physical Demands Most work is performed in a City office environment.Lift and carry materials weighing up to 30 pounds.Travel to/from meetings and various locations.EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY: It is the policy of the city to provide employment opportunities to all persons based solely on ability, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability.When advised, reasonable accommodations will be made in order for an "otherwise qualified applicant" with a disability to participate in any phase of the recruitment process.
