THE POSITION
Under general supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled electrical and mechanical work, alone or as member of a crew in the construction, maintenance and repair of the sewerage treatment equipment and facilities or the water system's production equipment and facilities.
Incumbent may be required to work stand-by on rotational basis and report to work on a callback basis as needed within a designated time frame. Standby assignment is at the discretion of the Division Head.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Depending on assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Water Division
Installs, maintains, cleans and repairs equipment and facilities at wells, booster stations, treatment facilities, water storage reservoirs and tanks; installs, maintains and repairs pumps, motors, motor controls centers, valves, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, compressors and combustion engines; fabricates and repairs equipment, using machine tools and welding equipment (gas, and electric); operator various motorized equipment (boom truck, crane, hoist, etc.) incidental to the mechanical testing instruments, i.e., volt/ohm meters, meggers, I.C. tester, dial indicators, etc. to obtain measurements and readings; installs and repairs equipment based upon mechanical drawings or electrical prints; troubleshoots and repairs 110 through 480 voltage alternating current equipment, with emphasis on 480 voltage; operates and monitors the water system through the use of a computer control system; troubleshoots telemetry systems in/outputs to water control computer system; patrols the water system to ensure security and correct operation of system equipment; monitors, collects and inputs production data and prepares reports; enters data into Ventura Water's computerized asset management system; performs related work as required.
Wastewater Division
Repairs and installs electrical and electronic systems. Tests and maintains electric motors, variable frequency drives, alarm and control systems for proper working condition. Obtains measurements and readings using electrical and mechanical testing instruments, including but not limited to DMM, meggers, micrometers and thickness gauges and process meters. Reads electrical and mechanical schematics, blueprints and/or diagrams and installs electrical or mechanical equipment as specified in these documents and in accordance with the National Electric Code. Installs electrical conduit and wiring for power, controls, lighting and similar applications. Maintains electrical and mechanical equipment associated with gas or diesel engine driven generators (co-generation and emergency portable generators). Facilitates, coordinates and supports repairs and maintenance. Performs a variety of other ancillary maintenance tasks, such as disconnecting and removing motors and pumps, maintaining and repairing solenoids and regulators on co-generation system and other related electrical and mechanical maintenance at the wastewater treatment facilities and pumping stations. Operates motorized and mechanical equipment to maintain an effective wastewater treatment system. Prepares reports, documentation and correspondence as required utilizing a personal computer.
