    SUMMER 2021 FOOD PROGRAMS AMERICORPSS OPPORTUNITIES

    AmeriCorps is a national community service program that allows thousands of Americans to give back to their community and get paid to do it! CitySquare is looking to fill Positions within the Food Pantry, Food Recovery and Food Mobile Programs! Please see the descriptions of all opportunities this summer!     We are looking to hire multiple candidates for the positions below:

    POSITION #1 - FOOD RECOVERY ASSISTANT

    The AmeriCorps Food Recovery Assistant will support the operations of the CitySquare Food Recovery program, which transforms fresh produce into healthy ready-to-heat meals to alleviate food waste and fight poverty. Primary duties include Help maintain inventory of prepared frozen meals, cleaning supplies, packaging materials, dry goods and refrigerated items. Create and print labels for food recovery meals. Assist with food prep and cookery, meal packaging and kitchen clean up. Member may also have the opportunity to engage with community partners to support the program and prepare/serve healthy samples for food pantry neighbors. Record and track in-coming donations. Collect and record food waste from various onsite CitySquare Composting Bins daily and Warehouse as needed. Including helping un-bag or de-box spoiled food from the warehouse in order to compost.

    Conduct surveys and record results electronically from the CitySquares Healthy Meal Program Survey and our Customer Satisfaction Survey

    POSITION #2 - FOOD PANTRY AMBASSADOR

    The AmeriCorps Food Pantry Ambassador serves with the CitySquare Food Pantry Program. Primary duties include reinforcing food pantry volunteer policies and procedures, brainstorming and implementing ways to enhance the volunteer experience, assisting the Volunteer Specialist with preparing for scheduled groups and individual volunteers, creating a welcoming and hospitable environment for pantry shoppers and volunteers, data collection/entry, building rapport with retail/corporate partners, helping ensure the pantry floor stays stocked, cleaned, and organized, and providing back-up as needed for the intake desk. All members serve under the supervision of an on-site supervisor. Members must also be able to meet the physical demands of the position, which includes the ability to lift at least 20 pounds and sit or stand for long periods of time, up to 8 hours. Preferred: public speaking and/or customer service experience.

    POSITION #3 - FOOD PANTRY WAREHOUSE ASSISTANT

    The AmeriCorps Warehouse Assistant will serve with the CitySquare Food Pantry Program, primarily in the Warehouse. Primary duties include assisting to maintain inventory, food acquisition including pick-up and delivery, and physical distribution of food resources to the community. Members assist with the loading and unloading of food deliveries and direct dissemination of food to neighbors and help with volunteer groups assigned to work in the warehouse area. Members provide direct assistance to community members while they are shopping in the client choice food pantry the equivalent assistance in a non-client choice model. All members serve under the supervision of an on-site supervisor. Drivers license required. Ability to drive a large van required, ability to drive a 12-foot box truck preferred. Members must also be able to meet the physical demands of the position, which includes the ability to lift at least 50 pounds, with or without assistance.

    POSITION #4 - FOOD MOBILE AMERICORPS MEMBER

    CitySquares Child Nutrition program provides free nutritious meals to children after school and during summer. The CitySquare Food Mobile Van Passenger is an AmeriCorps member who serves with CitySquare Food Mobile to distribute free afterschool meals to youth in low-income communities. Serve no-cost meals to kids and teens while ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations. Engage children in physical and educational enrichment programming. Build relationships with children, families, staff, and community to promote program engagement. Load and unload your van at CitySquares main campus, the Opportunity Center, and at each site. Complete required meal count forms accurately and in compliance with regulations. Safely transport team site to site and to and from the Opportunity Center (some positions)

    REQUIREMENTS

    • AVAILABLE FROM MAY 10 AUGUST 13, 2021
    • Available 35-45 HOURS PER WEEK, Monday to Friday (some Saturdays and evenings may be requested for Food Pantry positions)
    • High School Graduate (preferred but not required for all Food Pantry Positions)
    • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (Deferred action and temporary permanent resident do not qualify)
    • Able to access reliable transportation
    • Able to pass a criminal background check and drug screens for some positions
    • 17 or older and 21 or older for some positions
    • Valid Drivers License (some positions)
    • Ability to purchase non-slip or slip resistant shoes (some positions)
    • Ability to pass the Texas Food Handlers certification online training course (expensed by CitySquare) (Food Recovery Position)

    SERVICE CONDITIONS AND QUALIFICATIONS

    • This service opportunity is highly interpersonal and requires that members serve well with others. Members must be able to accommodate changing service conditions and diverse points of view.
    • Members must also be able to meet the physical demands of the position, which includes the ability to lift at least 50 pounds and sit or stand for long periods of time, up to 8 hours. (Food Recovery Position)

    BENEFITS

    • Living allowance starting at $2,300-3,000 depending on position (broken down and paid in Semi-monthly installments during the term)
    • Education award starting at $1,311.11-1,638.89 depending on position (paid at the end of their term and can be used for tuition or student loans)
