    Summary of Major Responsibilities

    Clayco’s legal department, located in Chicago, IL is offering a law student internship for the Summer of 2024, with the opportunity for continuing to work on a part-time basis through the academic year, primarily to assist in the review of commercial construction contracts, assisting with review of Non-Disclosure Agreements, assisting with state corporate registrations and other special projects as needed. The internship program will provide the student with relevant skills in a variety of legal functions via on-the-job training in a fast-paced business/legal environment at a leading, national design-build company with more than $5 billion in revenues. This is a great opportunity for any law student interested in a career focused on construction law.

    As an intern at Clayco, the selected candidate will have the opportunity to participate in office events and be exposed to opportunities to connect interact with Clayco attorneys, contract managers, risk managers and other professionals in the construction industry.

    This is a paid internship (part or full-time).

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Provide support relating to the review and abstracting of various owner-contractor commercial construction contracts and preparation of contract and subcontract exhibits as directed
    • Facilitate preparation and execution of contracts across all areas of the company’s business. Handle details of a highly confidential, critical, and time-sensitive nature.
    • Assist with corporate registration projects for parent company and affiliates as required.
    • Record contracts in our contract lifecycle management system, implement reports and notifications (similar to docketing), coordinate contract execution, and support use of the company’s contract lifecycle management system.
    • Use various software packages to type documents, create spreadsheets and maintain databases
    • Perform research on a variety of construction, mechanics lien, employment and general contract issues. Perform other related duties as assigned by the legal department.

    Occasional Duties & Responsibilities

    • Perform other administrative tasks as requested, including but not limited to mailing legal correspondence, supporting due diligence activities, and filing physical records.

    Education, Knowledge/Skills

    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Currently enrolled as a 2nd or 3rd year student at a law school located in Chicago
    • Coursework or experience in contracts construction, land use, or development law, highly preferred.
    • Excellent judgment and the ability to effectively handle sensitive and confidential information.
    • Analytical and detail oriented
    • The ability to review and interpret complex information.
    • Experience with AIA Contracts a plus
    • Highly motivated, independent, results-oriented, and possesses a strong sense of ownership of work performed
