    CleanDNS recognized the critical need for a systemized, customizable process to rein in domain name abuse and online harms via evidencing standards and escalated processes. As bad actors continue to evolve their domain abuse tactics, registries and registrars need a provider that continues to evolve practices and policies for the identification, tracking, and reporting of abuse activity.

    The CleanDNS platform’s evidence abuse reporting simplifies and accelerates mitigation procedures. By facilitating early detection of abuse, CleanDNS assists with detecting likely sources of abuse and helps our clients slow, shut down, and counter their spread.

    CleanDNS requires a premiere candidate for the critical dual role of General Counsel, and Chief Policy Officer to support the company and mission. The successful candidate will be responsible for the provision of timely, sound and reliable legal advice, in particular on matters of contract and privacy, as well as providing a broad relevant policy expertise. To fulfill this role, the preferred candidate shall have a professional legal background (with strong international experience) and a demonstrated ability for advocacy within the DNS industry, as well as professional experience and expertise in matters relating to DNS Abuse and online harms of varied types.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Draft and negotiate a variety of contracts, including SaaS and service agreements, technology licenses, and employment contracts.
    2. A keen eye for detail and a thorough understanding of contract law with an ability to adapt to many differing jurisdictional requirements e.g. US, EU, AP and LatAM.
    3. Provide practical, expert and strategic advice to executive management as well as guidance on matters relating to EU and US law, particularly as they relate to the organization's business operations, and matters relating to contractual obligations.
    4. Ability to identify legal risks, advise accordingly, and provide solutions to mitigate them.
    5. Advise the organization on DNS policy matters. You will have a deep understanding of the policies and procedures of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), as well as other relevant bodies such as various ccTLD clients.
    6. Leverage existing relationships and expertise in DNS policy and in particular, on DNS abuse to advocate for appropriate policy at all levels in support of both the organization and clients.
    7. Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with privacy laws, particularly the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You will have a strong understanding of the rights and obligations of data controllers and processors under the GDPR, as well as other relevant data protection laws and regulations.
    8. Advise and guide the organization in several key areas: client management, product policy, innovation and product development.
    9. Experience as a company secretary to the board of directors is desirable but not essential, but will be an expected duty of the role.

    Qualifications:

    1. Qualified lawyer with substantial experience (8 years +) in DNS policy and DNS Abuse management at a senior level.

    2. BCL / LLB / LLM / JD degree or equivalent, as well as a relevant professional legal qualification.

    3. Practical experience and proficiency in data protection and privacy matters.

    4. Strong contract drafting experience, including in data protection agreements, with relevant knowledge of applicable EU and US law.

    5. First class interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.

    6. Decision making process based on strong ethics and integrity.

    7. Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify legal risks and provide practical solutions.

    8. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of key industry stakeholders including governments, industry bodies, and at all levels of the organization.

    9. Understanding and experience of the ICANN multi stakeholder process

    10. Ability to prioritize and manage a high-volume workload in a fast-paced environment.

    Compensation is negotiable based on multiple factors. The role is remote. Significant travel to industry events is required.
