    Pay Rate: $16.03 per hour

    Position Overview

    The City of Virginia Beach is seeking a dependable and customer-focused Clerk to support front desk operations at the Housing Resource Center. This role is critical in ensuring a welcoming environment while efficiently managing visitor intake, communications, and administrative support tasks.

     

    Key Responsibilities

    • Manage and distribute incoming citizen mail and maintain inventory
    • Oversee inventory and distribution of office supplies
    • Ensure all visitors sign up using the Visitor Management System and assist with kiosks as needed
    • Maintain smooth visitor flow to minimize wait times
    • Make photocopies of documents for clients submitting paperwork
    • Follow all front desk security procedures and departmental guidelines
    • Provide information about Human Services departments, services, office locations, and hours
    • Deliver high-quality customer service using best practices and sound judgment
    • Remain professional when assisting individuals experiencing a wide range of emotions
    • Answer questions from the public and staff in person and by phone
    • Explain rules, policies, and regulations clearly and accurately
    • Operate computer-based screening systems
    • Direct calls and inquiries about appropriate program areas
    • Follow established city telephone procedures
    • Maintain and update resource directories and contact lists
    • Report any suspicious, threatening, or unsafe situations to appropriate staff immediately

     

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent required
    • Previous customer service, clerical, or administrative experience preferred
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Basic computer skills and ability to learn new systems
    • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
    • Professional demeanor and ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion

     

    Work Environment

    • Office setting within a public-facing facility
    • Frequent interaction with the public
    • May require standing, walking, and assisting visitors throughout the day
