We’re looking for Client Consultant to spearhead business development efforts, manage long-term client relationships, and contribute to our continued growth in the Cedar Rapids, Iowa area.
The Building Automation Client Consultant serves as a trusted advisor to commercial clients by identifying HVAC and building automation needs and developing tailored control system solutions. This role is responsible for consultative selling of HVAC controls systems and services, preparing competitive bids for new construction and retrofit projects, and developing strong relationships with mechanical contractors, consulting engineers, and building owners. The position works closely with internal engineering and project management teams to ensure successful project delivery and long-term customer satisfaction.
**** Responsibilities
Serve as a trusted advisor to clients by understanding their facility needs and recommending integrated solutions in building automation, operational goals, and energy performance objectives, and recommending appropriate building automation solutions.
Sell building automation controls systems and related services, including new construction, retrofits, system upgrades, modifications, recommissioning, and ongoing service agreements.
Review bid specifications, drawings, and sequences of operation to prepare accurate, competitive proposals and estimates.
Track and respond to bid opportunities in the marketplace, including design-build and plan-and-spec projects.
Collaborate with internal engineering teams to develop system architecture, control strategies, and value-engineered alternatives when appropriate.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with mechanical contractors, consulting engineers, facility managers, and building owners.
Coordinate closely with project managers to ensure smooth project handoff, including scope reviews, clarifications, and participation in pre-construction and site meetings.
Act as a liaison between customers, engineering, and project management throughout the sales and project development process.
Utilize the CRM system to track prospect communications, sales activities, pipeline progression, and forecast accuracy while maintaining data integrity for reporting and analysis.
Stay current on HVAC controls technology, building automation platforms, energy codes, and industry trends to support consultative sales efforts and client education.
Collaborate with marketing on HVAC-focused campaigns, presentations, and market segmentation initiatives.
Participate in industry associations, trade organizations, and networking events to expand market presence and identify new opportunities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Key Performance Indicators (KPI)
Requirements
Associate degree in Engineering, Business, Construction Management or equivalent combination of education and relevant Building Automation Controls experience
Demonstrated understanding of HVAC systems and building automation controls; experience with DDC systems preferred.
Experience with estimating, bid preparation, and competitive analysis for HVAC or controls projects.
Strong consultative selling, relationship-building, and negotiation skills.
Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Proficiency using CRM systems for pipeline management, forecasting, and reporting.
Self-motivated with the ability to manage territory, prioritize opportunities, and work independently.
Strong analytical skills for reviewing specifications, drawings, and market opportunities.
Active participation in HVAC-related trade organizations and industry events preferred.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
