Job Description
We are seeking an Optical Network Engineer for a contract-to-hire role in the greater Seattle area. This role will be a blend of field and in-office work (with some regional travel required). Design, develop, plan, and implement DWDM technologies throughout a regional Network footprint.
Job Duties:
- Implement DWDM designs that are worked on collaboratively with the network architecture and core teams.
- Provide wavelength services to the core IP network that are implemented in a way that complements the architecture and redundancy goals for the IP services.
- Work with systems engineering to automate as many network provisioning and turn up tasks as possible.
- Participate in the oversight and installation of DWDM and IP network layers.
- Plan and prepare detailed equipment installation specifications and drawings.
- Work with third party fiber providers where required to successfully turn up DWDM systems.
- Work with core network engineering team to make sure capacity is provisioned as needed to ensure a congestion free and fully protected IP network.
- Implement DWDM wavelengths for customers.
- Implement DWDM wavelengths and associated muxes to provide OC192 circuits to TDM team. DWDM team minimum circuit size is OC192/10g, smaller TDM circuits will be the TDM team.
- Ensure all site records are updated and accurate.
- Streamline and standardize implementation methods and procedures that allow for scale.
- Generate quote requests, purchase requests and RFPs.
- Attend various meetings with management, departments and vendors to ensure company objectives are met.
- Participate in inter-departmental planning meetings to coordinate and communicate activities related to the successful completion of projects.
- Work closely with Network Operations personnel to hand-off newly deployed equipment and customer services for ongoing surveillance and management.
- Support the core IP network with the implementation of DWDM wavelengths as needed for capacity.
- Work with IP to ensure new IP pops are accessible once the DWDM network is in place.
- Connect DC power connections required to power DWDM equipment and/or routers.
- Travel to job sites and project sites as required.
- Participate in on-call rotation for DWDM outages
