  • Responsibilities

    Job Duties:

    \- Responsible for provision of support services within the Virginia Beach Juvenile Detention Center.

    \- Provides opioid awareness, education, prevention, and treatment to residents in the pre-dispositional and/or post-dispositional program(s), including performing assessments, treatment planning, clinical intervention, consultation, and supportive counseling in compliance with state certification standards.

    \- Assist juveniles with developing skills and strategies to prevent relapse.

    \- Provides psycho-educational preventative groups to juveniles throughout the detention center. Conducts bio-psychosocial needs assessments, offering individual and group services to youth identified as having opioid misuse challenges.

    \- Conducts parent psycho-education groups and trains juvenile detention center staff to increase knowledge about opioid use and skills for working with adolescents who are at-risk and/or have substance use disorders.

    \- Completes and maintains accurate clinical documentation and within required timeframes.

    \- Provides updates accurately and within required timeframes.

    \- Collaborates with multiple providers as part of a treatment team.

    \- Attends staff meetings and training activities, as required.

    \- Services to be comprised of evidence-based practice models, such as motivational interviewing, solution-focused brief therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy.

     

    Minimum/Special/Additional Requirements:

    Requires a four (4) year degree in a human services field (such as psychology, behavioral or mental health, special education, social work) and five (5) years utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities and associated with such positions as clinician, counselor, therapist, social worker, psychologist or psychiatric nurse OR any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or experience equivalent to nine (9) years in fields utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with such positions. Must have, or obtain, a current and valid DMV driver’s license.

    Must be Licensed Mental Health Professional Virginia – Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).
