  • Responsibilities

    Velocity Talent is hiring a Cloud Architect for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). You'll join WMATA's Digital Modernization Office, supporting Service Delivery and Operations, and lead the design, implementation and governance of enterprise cloud environments.

    Contract: about 1,920 hours, a one year base period plus a six month option (up to 18 months total).
    Location: onsite five days a week at WMATA sites in Washington, DC, Hyattsville, MD and Alexandria, VA.

    What you'll do

    • Design enterprise cloud architectures covering compute, network, storage, security and application integration
    • Assess current cloud platforms and find opportunities to standardize, modernize, automate and cut cost
    • Build cloud infrastructure designs and implementation roadmaps tied to WMATA business goals
    • Develop cloud governance frameworks, standards, security controls and cost management practices
    • Implement, configure and deploy enterprise cloud environments, and lead migrations of applications, services and data
    • Integrate cloud native services, serverless functions, containers, microservices and data orchestration tools
    • Monitor performance, availability, security, utilization and cost, and troubleshoot complex issues
    • Document current and future state architectures in Visio or similar tools, and build cost and utilization dashboards in Power BI or similar
    • Provide technical leadership across design, implementation and operations, working with developers, infrastructure, security and network teams

    What you'll need

    • 15+ years designing, developing and implementing IT infrastructure
    • 5+ years in enterprise cloud architecture
    • 5+ years aligning cloud strategy and technology with enterprise architecture standards and IT roadmaps
    • 5+ years building complete cloud architectures, including network layouts, storage and compute
    • 5+ years building cloud cost dashboards from raw data in Power BI or a similar platform
    • 3+ years of transit industry experience
    • 3+ years implementing architecture for data analytics applications
