    SUMMARY

    The position of Financial Controller encompasses all of the duties necessary to effectively manage the activities of the accounting staff to ensure accurate and timely financial reports and to ensure that all deadlines are met. He/She will be a person that the accounting staff can rely on for job support. In order to meet these requirements the Controller’s duties are outlined in (but not limited to) the following job description:

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
    1. Maintain the financial records of Coast Property Management and the properties it manages, including its general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventories and other accruals, payroll journal, and general journal using generally accepted accounting principles and practices
    2. Prepare monthly cash projection reports.
    1. Develop and supervise policies and procedures for property accounting.
    1. Responsible for effective training and motivation of accounting staff.
    1. Responsible for all accounting staff duties.
    1. Responsible for hiring and firing, disciplinary procedures and timely performance evaluations for Accounting Manager, Accounts Payable Manager and Collections Manager.
    1. Oversee the current computer accounting systems and ensure that they are operating on the latest versions.
    1. Review financial statements and other reports to ensure accuracy.
    1. Give support to accounting staff members where needed.
    1. Ensure efficiencies and organization in the accounting department.
    1. Develop a clear understanding of subsidized housing rules and ensure timely reporting and payments to all necessary agencies.
    1. Controller will develop a clear understanding of the computer systems as well as the “Coast” accounting methods with regard to property management accounting.
    1. Monitor accounting office daily activities and ensure that Coast Company policies are followed.
    1. Develop and monitor work schedules.
    1. Maintain a close working relationship with the Sr. VP Finance & Administration and COO and keep them apprised of weekly accounting department operations.
    16  Ensure that payroll interface is accurate and timely.
    1.  Manage payroll account.
    1. Accountability for Coast profitability.
    1. Assist the Sr.VP Finance & Administration in preparing an annual budget for CPM Leadership review meeting.
    2. Submit monthly reports to the CPM Leadership.
    3. Performing financial analyses as requested by the CPM Leadership;
    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Full management responsibilities for all accounting staff and collections Manger.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • At least 5 years of supervisory/management experience.
    • Ability to determine and facilitate accounting projects;

    • Excellent project management skills;
    • Strong assessment/ reasoning skills; independent decision maker;
    • Expert level knowledge of computer software, including all MS OFFICE applications
    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    Corporate experience in audit, financial consulting and/or financial management.  Must have managed budgets, employees, established working goals and objectives and held significant financial decision making roles.  Required:  BS in Accounting.

    COMMUNICATION SKILLS (reading, writing, typing etc.) Responsible for monthly reports on company’s financial position.  Communicates all efforts with company senior management and maintains open lines of communication with banks, Board of Directors and outside clients. 

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS (if applicable)

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers and decimals. Must be knowledgeable of generally accepted accounting practices.

    REASONING ABILITIES  - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

    Salary range $75K-$85K annually
