    Job Description

    SUMMARY

    Under the direction of the VP Credit Manager, the Commercial Banking Officer originates, manages, and supervises a large portfolio of commercial loans, with the overall objective of maintaining and increasing asset quality.  Maintains existing relationships and solicits profitable new business for the Credit Union.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Solicits, develops, and services new business through defined sales calling efforts to achieve individually established goals.  
    • Expands existing relationships by consistently communicating with business members for opportunities to meet additional needs with other products or services.
    • Develops and implements marketing plans for maintaining and expanding referral relationships with real estate agents, loan brokers, community development companies, attorneys, accountants, financial planners, and other key referral sources.
    • Maintains knowledge of all commercial loan and depository products and services.
    • Maintains a clear understanding of operational flow processes to communicate and set realistic expectations with prospects and existing business customers.
    • Recommends the appropriate financial solution based on borrower’s needs and financial position. 
    • Maintains knowledge of the industries or market areas served
    • Maintains and builds a robust pipeline to ensure production goals are met on an ongoing basis.
    • Ensures that monthly reports are generated in a timely manner.
    • Ensures pipeline and lending results are reviewed regularly for accuracy and to goals and objectives.
    • Fosters positive inter-departmental relationships to ensure outstanding service to internal and external members.
    • Meets all established financial and non-financial goals.
    • Partners with Branch Managers to identify business loan opportunities with existing and potential members.
    • Actively participates in product presentations, various community organizations and events to promote the image of the Credit Union.  Such activity is reported to Chief Credit Officer monthly.
    • Interviews loan applicants, gathers required documentation, conducts loan closings and guides members through the loan origination process from beginning to end.
    • Recommends loan proposals and structure for approval and works closely with the lending staff to complete the underwriting, approval, documentation and closing process.
    • Consolidates applicant information into a working file for underwriting and analysis purposes.
    • Analyzes financial statements and tax returns to substantiate borrower’s financial ability to qualify pursuant to current loan underwriting criteria and standards.
    • Fully discloses all lending terms (pricing, costs, and structure pursuant to current pricing matrix) to the borrower.
    • Manages member expectations throughout the application process to ensure positive member experience.
    • Manages loans within the loan portfolio including following up with collections or delinquencies, collecting updated financials annually, and performing regular site inspections.
    • Ensures compliance with all applicable laws and regulations as well as internal policies and procedures.
    • Develops and implements action plans to promote, support and grow our lending activity to achieve goals.
    • Keeps abreast of legislation and regulations as it pertains to lending.

    QUALIFICATIONS

     The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

     

    _EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE _

    • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance or related field, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.  
    • Four to seven years commercial lending experience.
    • Prior experience managing relationships in market area preferred.
    • Knowledge and understanding of Credit Union activities, policies, procedures, and systems.

     

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS

    • None

     

    KNOWLEDGE

    • Commercial lending best practices.
    • In-depth knowledge of current and approved methodologies of risk measurement.   
    • USDA and SBA Loan Programs and Standard Operating Procedures.
    • Credit Union member business services.
    • Federal and state laws governing credit unions.
    • Credit Union products, services, programs, and promotions.
    • Computer system/software (MS Office, other software needed to effectively perform job).

     

    OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    • Ability to be bonded.
    • Operates a variety of office equipment and machines.
    • Ability to travel, attend, and participate in meetings, seminars, and conferences held before and after normal business hours that may require unaccompanied long-distance travel and overnight lodging.
