    Job Description

    SUMMARY  Under the direction of the Real Estate Underwriting Manager, the Real Estate Underwriter is responsible for underwriting and evaluating all mortgage applications submitted to the Real Estate Department.   Underwrites complex 1-4 family residential mortgage applications in a high volume setting and in accordance with regulatory and secondary market investor requirements.  Reviews applications for completeness, accuracy and required documentation and makes loan decisions within designated loan authority and within the required time frames.  Communicates regularly with management regarding pipeline status with the goal of maximizing efficiency of the loan process.

    • Performs thorough review and analysis of complex mortgage loan applications and makes loan decisions in accordance with the Credit Union’s lending policies, authority, applicable regulatory statutes, and adherence to secondary market investor requirements.
    • Seeks ways to approve loan application requests while maintaining lending prudence.
    • Reviews and analyzes complex personal and corporate tax returns and financial statements in order to derive qualifying income.
    • Reviews property appraisals, title reports, credit reports, verifications and all lender required documentation and prudently assesses the credit risk of loan requests.
    • Maintains real estate loan underwriting authority as granted by the Credit Union. This will be accomplished by maintaining working and technical knowledge of the real estate lending processing and underwriting requirements in accordance with the Credit Union and secondary market investor requirements.
    • Supports the loan processors as needed to order preliminary title reports, credit reports, appraisals, verifications and any other processing duties.
    • Responsible for ensuring HMDA reportable fields are updated in Loan Application and Loan Origination System.
    • Responsible for submitting loan applications to the Automated Underwriting System and assessing the analysis provided by the AUS.
    • Responsible for upload and review of appraisal report to the UCDP.
    • Responsible for upload and review of loans to the investors Collateral Underwriter site.
    • Ensures loans meet all regulatory time frames and guidelines such as making sure a loan is not a HPML and is a QM loan.
    • Provides training and support to Mortgage Processors in relation to the productivity and growth of the Real Estate Department.
    • Performs duties in compliance with Credit Union policy and appropriate regulatory statutes.
    • Maintains current job knowledge of Credit Union policies, procedures, and services. Uses cross-selling techniques to promote other Credit Union services.
    • Regularly attends and participates in in-house training.
    • Performs duties as assigned by management and may be assigned to work at any location.

    QUALIFICATIONS

     The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to perform the essential functions of this position.

     

    _EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE _

    • Five or more years increasingly responsible experience obtaining knowledge and understanding of real estate lending procedures, practices and policies and credit fundamentals.
    • Five or more years’ experience in real estate underwriting.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS

    • Obtain NMLS registration.

    KNOWLEDGE

    • Credit Union products, services, programs and promotions.
    • Credit Union real estate policies, procedures and practices.

    • Ability to be bonded.
