As an Attorney Support Manager at Latham, you will be responsible for establishing strategic and operational priorities for the attorney support teams in the office, including organizing, supervising and developing secretarial staff.  You will manage, assign, and delegate the work of the local attorney support  coordinators and assistants to ensure that objectives are met in a timely and accurate manner, while accomplishing these and other critical functions:  

    • Establishing strategic and operational priorities for the attorney support functions in the office
    • Monitoring workflow and coordination of assignments based upon daily Firm and client needs
    • Coaching and counselling attorney support coordinators and secretaries as needed
    • Establishing effective communication with the secretarial staff regarding firm policies, procedures and expectations; conducting secretarial meetings as necessary and in line with department guidelines
    • Managing the performance review process, incorporating all appropriate feedback, and recommending salary increases and discretionary bonuses for attorney support; obtaining ongoing feedback on coordinators and, where necessary, other secretaries; delivering performance messages in line with departmental guidelines
    • Planning and preparing the orientation and onboarding of all new attorney support staff
    • Working with local attorney support coordinators to ensure coverage for both planned and unplanned absences (sickness, personal days, late arrivals and early departures); arranging coverage as required for the night secretaries; coordinating with other departmental supervisors and managers regarding secretarial operational issues, and other logistical and resource requirements
    • Identifying training needs and supporting the development, implementation and assessment of attorney support initiatives
    • Participating in global Legal Secretarial Manager/Supervisor conference calls and in firm-wide projects as may be required from time to time; working collaboratively with other departments and offices to ascertain and develop best-practice for the secretarial support function
    • Making recommendations with regard to resource planning and recruitment needs; establishing effective and efficient assignments for attorneys and paralegals and recommending appropriate reallocations
    • Facilitating conflict resolution among attorneys, paralegals, secretaries, and staff
    • Completing special projects and other tasks/duties commensurate with experience

    As an Attorney Support Manager, you will be expected to apply your organizational and communication skills while displaying a positive, high-energy attitude. The successful candidate must have excellent leadership skills (e.g. organizing, planning, problem-solving and decision-making) necessary for effective management, as well as change management skills to identify and implement alternative ways of working, as necessary.  Awareness of and sensitivity to employee relations and related HR issues is desired.  An ideal candidate must be able to use independent judgment and discretion when making majority of decisions. A Bachelor’s degree is required.  A minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.  A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a supervisory or management capacity, preferably in a law firm, is desired.  Legal secretarial experience is desired.  Experience in a US law firm is desired.     Required Skills Required Experience

  • Qualifications
      • Review specifications, technical manuals, and other technical documentation that relate to HM&E systems.
        • Support project planning and execution efforts for technical documentation research, development, and analyses.
        • Apply Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) concepts in maintenance requirement analysis.
        • Review maintenance documentation for clarity, conformity, and proper structure according to the Navy’s most recent guidelines.
        • Facilitate effective government and industry team relationships.
        • Facilitate and participate in project team meetings and discussions to improve process efficiency and effectiveness.
        • Be familiar with LBES/Modernization training and system level training for in-service and new construction ships.
        • Conduct classroom training and lab training and hot plant operations at LBES
        • Develop End of Mission reports, which provides comments on success of the classes, participation by the crew, adequacy of curriculum and equipment
        • Provide direct support to the assigned program technical manager.
        • Must be able to develop productive relationships and interface with the fleet, waterfront supporting organizations, NAVSEA and field activities.
        • Excellent communication skills (written, oral, and presentation) are required.
        • Must be familiar with U.S. Navy 3M policies and procedures.
        • Experience in various formalized Navy training environments. Delivering Training material, administering tests, evaluating performance, and performing curriculum maintenance to meet formalized training requirements.
        • Understanding of EOSS, EOCC, and the role they play in engineering plants on DDG and/or CG class ships.
        • ETT experience a plus.
        • Expertise/Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
        • Travel up to 25% of the time.
        • MUST HAVE AN ACTIVE SECRET SECURITY CLEARANCE.
