    POSITION PROFILE 

    This position is under the direction of the Plant Manager and is responsible for ensuring that all assigned processes and manufactured product meet all customer specifications and expectations. The Production Manager position contributes to the success of Knoll by directing the manufacturing front line team to meet customer needs and achieve standards related to cost, line efficiencies, waste, safety, and productivity.

     

    SAFETY: RESPONSIBLE FOR THE OVERALL SAFETY PERFORMANCE AND METRICS FOR THE VALUE STREAM OPERATION.

     

    • Promote a strong safety-minded culture in the value stream. Maintain an active safety program, ensuring the observation of safety precautions and safe work methods by all personnel, including behavior-based safety observations, safety meetings, safety audits, and 5S housekeeping standards.
    • Review and sign off on all accident investigations. Ensure they are completed promptly and identify the root cause and corrective action to drive required changes.

     

    QUALITY: ENSURE THE PRODUCTS PRODUCED WITHIN THE ENTIRE VALUE STREAM OPERATION ARE DEFECT-FREE AND PRODUCED ACCORDING TO SPECIFICATIONS.

     

    • Ensure manufacturing plan and all quality processes/standards are followed within the entire value stream.
    • Partner with Quality and Engineering to drive improvements in key quality metrics, including First Pass Yield, Claims Rate, and Damage.
    • Report on quality defect issues and help determine necessary corrective actions to eliminate repetitive failures.
    • Ensures full compliance with all quality assurance standards, especially good housekeeping and overall cleanliness of products and work areas.

     

    MANUFACTURING OPERATIONS: OVERSEES MANUFACTURING OPERATIONS FOR AN ENTIRE VALUE STREAM WITHIN A PLANT.

     

    • Responsible for operational performance and improvement of key metrics, including safety, quality, delivery, cost, and culture. Align area metrics with overall plant goals; organize resources to deliver on these metrics.
    • Direct Reports include Manufacturing Supervisors and Process Leads. Utilize production line boards to collect information on value stream performance, issue identification, and problem resolution.
    • Follow the escalation process to address and respond to abnormalities and recommend corrective action as required.
    • Oversee the deployment of standardized work within the value stream operation. Ensure process stability through following standardized work.
    • Prepare scheduling and staffing plans for dedicated process steps and monitor capacity to support requirements.
    • Provide training and cross-training to employees, as well as all departments regarding quality improvements, processes and procedures, standard work, and any other areas of need, to improve flexibility in the workforce.
    • Builds consensus in the team to ensure all members have “bought in” to the plan and have developed practical methods within their value stream to achieve it.
    • Monitor productivity data and help develop corrective action plans necessary to achieve annual productivity improvements.
    • Work with Product Development, Suppliers, Engineering, Quality, and Associates in finding innovative ways to improve the Quality and productivity of our products.
    • Flex production plans on a shift by shift basis, managing through issues to prevent service issues and operational inefficiencies.
    • Motivates team members to achieve plan goals by having a regular presence on the plant floor.
    • Ensures effective selection, retention, development, disciplinary action, and performance management.

     

    CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT: PROMOTE AND TEACH LEAN PHILOSOPHY AND DRIVE CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT WITHIN THE VALUE STREAM OPERATION.

     

    • Drive problem-solving and root cause identification of problems for the entire value stream. Lead and promote teams that react aggressively to factory inefficiencies.
    • Simplify processes using Lean methods so the business can run largely visually.
    • Partner with Quality, Engineering, and Maintenance teams to ensure problems with quality, processes, equipment, or materials are resolved correctly and promptly, including the updating of the standard work when necessary.
    • Continuously identify and work to reduce waste for both short term and long-term improvement initiatives.
    • Embrace Lean principles and support change management techniques to help encourage a culture of continuous improvement and engagement.

    Required Skills

    • Working knowledge of ERP and Microsoft business systems.
    • Lean Manufacturing experience.
    • Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
    • Strong problem solving, quantitative, and analytical skills
    • Demonstrated ability to work in a results-oriented, challenging environment.

    Required Experience

    • Bachelors’ Degree in Business, Engineering or related technical field.
    • Seven years of direct supervisory experience in a high-volume manufacturing/plant operation.
