MAJOR PROCESS:

Supports the Product Development (PD) Core Process Objectives.  As Principal PCB Designer, coordinates project and system issues related to the preparation of PC board design and documentation.  Follows up on product development from inception to production.  Develops and adapts techniques to specific product process.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:                                               

• Receives work direction from Director of Technical Operations or other designated leader.
• Supervises and provides technical guidance and assistance to lower classified PCB designers and drafters.
• Prepares schematics, artwork, fabrication, and assembly drawings from sketches, layouts, parts, and/or verbal instructions to satisfy product objectives.
• Supplies PB Board fabricator, assembler, and test with CAD data required.
• Responsible for parts library, maintenance, and back-up of CAD system. 
• Implements standard Engineering procedures, including completion of forms (ECMs, BOMs, etc.).
• Measurement (scaling), layout, and design of PC boards, outline, and mounting dimensions.
• Verifies part specifications and fit against Toro standards using information from catalogs, vendors, or company buyers.
• Performs other required duties as needed in addition to the essential duties and responsibilities described above.

JOB DIMENSIONS:

• Work direction provided by Electrical Engineer in the form of schematics, sketches, or verbally.
• Works independently on projects of major complexity and scope.
• Participates in planning and coordination with other departments/outside vendors.

1. EDUCATION: Associate of Arts degree in Engineering, trade school, or technical institute (may substitute three years of technical training for every year of college).
2. EXPERIENCE: Six years minimum design experience.  One year project administration skills.
3. TRAINING: Mentor Graphics Expedition and/or OrCad. Working knowledge of CAM350 or similar Gerber file editing tool. Knowledge of IPC standards for PCB layout design and assembly.  Familiarity with AutoCad is desired.   Practical knowledge of PC Board manufacturing, assembly, and testing process.
4. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to use geometry, trigonometry, and calculus to solve engineering problems.
5. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schematic form.  Ability to creatively solve PC Board design-related problems.
