    The HOWARD HUGHES MEDICAL INSTITUTE is seeking a highly motivated RESEARCH SPECIALIST to join Dr. J. Paul Taylor’s group at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  The primary focus of this position will be the use of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and differentiated neurons as a tool to investigate the molecular genetics of neurological diseases.

     

    PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    To elucidate the pathogenic mechanisms underlying genetic forms of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and related diseases using a wide range of approaches including molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, behavior, and state of the art imaging.

     

    The successful candidate will possess:

     

    • High level of experience with cell culture, cell-based assays, and cell culture process development
    • Demonstrated excellence in planning, executing and analyzing experiments
    • Able to troubleshoot, solve difficult problems, and develop process and/or assay improvements
    • Attention to detail and careful record-keeping
    • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, able to write technical reports and protocols
    • Flexible team player excited to collaborate with internal and external partners
    • Highly self-motivated
    • Flexibility in working schedule to accommodate weekend work if necessary
    • Authorized to legally work in US

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    • 2+ year of relevant experience with embryonic or induced pluripotent stem cell (ESC/hiPSC) culture
    • A deep knowledge of iPSC undifferentiated cell culture, differentiation, and the application of iPSC to the generation of physiologically relevant assays and models
    • Experience with standard cell and molecular biology

     

    EDUCATION:

     

    This position requires a Ph.D. with 2-5 years of experience.
