    Under the supervision of the Clinical Nurse Manager, Supervisor or delegate in charge of the team/unit, the Nurse Aide/Competent Nurse Aide assists patients with activities of daily living, provides basic nursing care to non-acutely ill patients, and assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment.

    EDUCATION:

    High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

    Completion of Nursing Assistant course preferred.

     

    WORK EXPERIENCE:

    Experience as a Nursing Assistant preferred.

     

    Provides patient care related to activities of daily living, which may include showers, oral hygiene, combing hair, nail care, dressing patient, straightening room and labeling patient’s personal care items, as needed.

    Provides for exceptional customer service, utilizing interpersonal communication skills and behavior management skills, including positive reinforcement.

    Assists patients with bowel and bladder needs, such as assisting patient to the bathroom, assisting the patient in the use of bedpan, urinal or commode. Empties urinary drainage and colostomy bags. Monitors and documents intake and output.

    Obtains and documents vital signs including temperature, pulse, respirations and blood pressure.   Notifies the nurse of any changes or findings beyond normal limits.

    Provides assistance with ambulation and mobility such as positioning, lifting and turning patients. Whenever moving or lifting a patient the employee will follow the Safe Handling and Movement of Patients Program.

    Prepares patients for meals and assists with feeding patients and with nutritional intake. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to follow dietary restrictions including thickened liquids.

    Accompanies patient to therapies, x-ray and outside agency appointments as assigned.

    Demonstrates an adherence to and knowledge of infection control and safety measures.

    Completes purposeful rounds at least hourly.  Reports (and when appropriate, records) observations of patient behavior and uses adequate judgement to notify the nurse of any changes in clinical or functional status.

    In conjunction with the nurse (RN/LPN) answers patient call lights promptly and whenever possible anticipates patient needs.

    Assists in preparation of units, patient rooms and beds for receiving patient admissions, transfers, emergencies or discharges.

    Assists the patient with donning and doffing orthotics and prosthetics.

    Collaborates with the nurse to provide information related the burden of care in order for the nurse to complete FIM Scoring.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    1. Ability to move up to 50 Lbs., with or without accommodation.

    2. Ability to maintain a consistent workload that involves physical manual labor.

    3. Ability to maintain alertness and fitness for duty.

    4. Ability to position oneself for work conducted in and around confined spaces.

    5. Ability to wear respirators in environments that may expose you to chemicals, fumes, etc.

    6. Ability to maintain workloads that may include travel to a variety of states for days or weeks, and daily timeframes that could exceed the typical 8-hour shift.
