Job Description

We are looking for a chemistry leader to help us build our research and discovery team at Cogent Biosciences. Reporting to the head of medicinal chemistry, you will lead a small molecule drug discovery project from the bench while contributing intellectually across our research portfolio.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

• Lead a blended team of internal and contract chemists on the design and synthesis of drug like molecules
• Collaborate with the computational and medicinal chemists using SBDD to design compounds
• Progress your project by supporting in vitro and in vivo experiments through close interactions with your biology co-leader
• Provide updates of data and project progress to senior staff
• Function as a synthetic organic chemistry expert by solving problems across the research portfolio
• Lead from the bench; in this role you will mentor your team in the lab
• Contribute to new target identification

Qualifications

WHAT YOU BRING:

• PhD in Synthetic Organic Chemistry and a minimum of 10 years industrial experience or MS/BS + 15 years of experience
• Expert knowledge of small molecule drug discovery principles and concepts
• Reputation as emerging leader in the field with a record of sustained performance and accomplishment

OUR LOCATIONS

Boulder, CO: We are in the process of building a second location in the fast-growing biopharmaceutical hub in the greater Denver/Boulder corridor.  Our CEO is based full-time in this location, which will serve as the future home of Cogent’s discovery research organization. This role will be based in our Boulder location.

Cambridge, MA: Our Boston office is located within walking distance of the Alewife T station in Cambridge, MA. Our space includes an open office layout designed for collaboration. Free access is provided for both on-site parking and gym facilities in the building. We are in close proximity to leading academic institutions like MIT and Harvard and to potential pharmaceutical and biotech partners. This unique location allows for a high level of energy and intellectual exchange within and among fast growing early stage companies.
